After all the hype over the summer, Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo has agreed to three-year, $186 million max contract that will keep him at the franchise for the foreseeable future.
The deal includes a player option in the final year.
The reported breakdown of his salary is below:
2023-24: $45.6M
2024-25: $48.8M
2025-26: $57.6M
2026-27: $62.2M
2027-28: $66.8M (PO)

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski provided some more insight into the deal.
“This deal gives Antetokounmpo a chance to earn more money over the course of his career with that player option in 2027-2028,” Wojnarowski said. “Because of the Over-38 rule in the CBA, he can sign a short-term deal again with the Bucks in 2026 and another four-year extension with the Bucks in 2028.
“Bucks GM Jon Horst and Antetokounmpo’s agent, Alex Saratsis of Octagon, met on Sunday in Chicago, worked through the max extension details and the two-time MVP finalized the agreement today, sources tell ESPN. Giannis had an 11:59 PM ET deadline tonight to complete the deal.”
During the offseason, Giannis had Bucks fans nervous with his comments.
“I would not be the best version of myself if I don’t know that everybody’s on the same page, everybody’s going for a championship, everybody’s going to sacrifice time away from their family like I do,” Antetokounmpo told The New York Times in August. “And if I don’t feel that, I’m not signing.”
The front office must have listened to their best player, because they have given him the best chance of winning another championship by signing point guard Damian Lillard.
Milwaukee will open their season on Thursday night against Philadelphia and fans will get to see how Giannis and Dame work together in a game that counts.
