Thunder Trade Hamidou Diallo to Pistons for Svi Mykhailiuk, Second Round Pick

The Oklahoma City Thunder have reportedly agreed to trade guard Hamidou Diallo to the Detroit Pistons for Svi Mykhailiuk and a second round pick.

Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN first reported the news Friday night.

Diallo, 22, is in the midst of a breakout season, averaging career highs in points per game (11.9), rebounds per game (5.2), and assists per game (2.4).

Mykhailiuk, 23, is shooting below his career average from the field and from three this season.

Both Diallo and Mykhailiuk will become restricted free agents at the end of the 2020-2021 season.

According to Woj, the Pistons view Diallo as part of their new core, and will work to sign him to an extension.

Pistons general manager Troy Weaver was part of the front office in Oklahoma City when Diallo was drafted by the Thunder in 2018.

Diallo has long been viewed as a “project player” with enormous upside.

But prior to this year, he was far too inconsistent to play regular minutes for a team in “win now” mode.

In Detroit, Diallo will have a chance to become a starter alongside fellow young players like Killian Hayes, Saddiq Bey, and Isaiah Stewart.
