The Lakers Offseason Plans Revealed

All eyes are on the Lakers to see if the team will sign Chris Paul after he was traded away from the Suns but what else do they have in mind this offseason?

The purple and gold have a pretty solid plan of attack at the moment, according to NBA insider Marc Stein.

“The Lakers’ current Plan A, which calls for re-signing free agents Austin Reaves and Rui Hachimura and trying to sign Chris Paul as a free agent should Paul make it to the open market in the wake of his inclusion in the Beal-to-Phoenix trade,” Stein wrote.

If LA could sign Paul on a vet minimum contract, that would be their preferred option.

It has previously been reported that the Lakers will pay up to $100 million for restricted free agent Reaves.

But one NBA Insider believes that the Spurs should make Reaves an offer because they have more financial flexibility than the Lakers.

“They [The Spurs] have a lot of room to do stuff,” Simmons said on his podcast. “They could also just — if I were them, and I’ve said this before. I’m gonna say it again. I would just go max out Austin Reaves and make the Lakers match it. I would do that on the first day I could do it. … Austin Reaves is perfect for this team.”

As for Hachimura, his value is reportedly in the $12-$15 million base range.

“Hachmiura is a straightforward restricted free agent, eligible for up to a starting max of approximately $33.5 million,” Bleacher Report’s Eric Pincus wrote. “His market value, as projected by multiple competing executives, is in the $12-18 million starting range.”

Some NBA teams will have major spending power and could potentially offer Reaves, Paul and Hachimura more and they include the Spurs (which were already mentioned), Pistons, Rockets, Pacers, OKC, Magic, Raptors and the Jazz.
