Report: Boston Celtics to re-sign Jabari Parker

Per Shams Charania of The Athletic, the Boston Celtics are re-signing forward Jabari Parker:

Parker was waived on Sunday and cleared waivers on Tuesday. Clearing waivers paved the way for Parker to re-sign with Boston.

The Celtics signed Parker to a two-year contract in mid-April of last season. That deal had Parker’s salary at $2,283,034 for the 2021-22 season. Parker’s contract triggered a $100,000 guarantee this offseason. The contract was set to become 50% guaranteed had Parker remained on the Celtics on that deal on opening night.

By waiving Parker, Boston eats the $100,000 amount, but lowers Parker’s 2021-22 cap hit to $1,669,178. That will save the Celtics $513,856 towards their luxury tax payment.

It’s also likely that Parker’s new contract will not guarantee until the league-wide guarantee date of January 10, 2022.

In 10 regular season games with Boston, Parker averaged 6.4 points and 3.6 rebounds. He shot 54.2% from the field.

Parker then went on to play four games in the Celtics first round loss to the Brooklyn Nets. In those four games, Parker averaged 8.5 points and 3.8 rebounds. He upped his shooting to 61.2% from the floor.

The Celtics roster is now at the regular season maximum of 15 players on standard contracts and two players on Two-Way contracts.
