Luka Doncic Reveals His Thoughts on Mavs’ Offseason Moves

The Dallas front office has had a busy summer and their star Luka Doncic has shared his thoughts about the moves made.

The franchise managed to re-sign Kyrie Irving and Dwight Powell as well as sign Seth Curry and Dante Exum and acquired Grant Williams in a sign-and-trade from Boston.

Doncic has spent most of the summer in his home country of Slovenia and is now preparing for the FIBA Cup World Cup but was asked about his thoughts on Dallas.

“I’m with the [Slovenian] national team now, so I don’t think about that, but Dallas is taking good steps,” Doncic said via BasketNews. “We can still sign someone, or maybe not.”

His comments about signing about someone else may come true as Clint Capela is reportedly on the trading block and the Mavs want to make another run at him, NBA insider Marc Stein says.

“The Mavericks don’t want to be done,” Stein said on his #thisleague UNCUT podcast. “Maybe they are done with this roster because further moves are not available to them. They would love it if the chance to make another trade run at Clint Capela from the Atlanta Hawks materializes to this point. That opportunity has not availed itself to the Mavericks.

“But will Atlanta move Capela elsewhere which creates an opportunity for Dallas to try to get in as a third team? Or would they trade him somewhere to a team that really only needs him for contract purposes, salary cap matching purposes in the trade, and then that team makes Capela available?”

Meanwhile, regular Slovenian captain Edo Muric suffered an ACL tear, so Doncic becomes the captain of the national side for the first time and is excited for the challenge.

“I am honored to be the captain. We made this decision with the coach and the players. I am truly honored. It’s a proud moment,” he said. “It is not a new role for me. I was a vocal leader in the national team’s locker room, also in Dallas.”
