Josh Green: 'I want to be in Dallas'

How the positional competition unfolds could well impact the terms of that extension, if one is agreed upon. “At the end of the day, I know I want to be here,” Green said Friday. “I’m going to work as if I’m going to be here for a long time. I want to be able to win in Dallas; I want to be in Dallas. “Whatever their decision is their decision, but at the end of the day I’ve got the same goal every single day and that’s to be the best teammate and the best player I can be for the team.”

More on this storyline

If the Mavericks and Green are not able to agree to an extension by Oct. 23, Green would enter next offseason as a restricted free agent, provided that the Mavericks extend a qualifying offer. In that scenario, the Mavericks would be able to keep Green by matching his highest offer from another team. Is Green optimistic that an extension will be agreed upon? “For sure,” he said. “I think it’s always good to stay positive with everything, so, yeah.” -via Dallas Morning News / September 30, 2023
“I want to be able to be a bigger defensive presence next year for the Mavs,” Green said. “I think this is a perfect time to try. I think I’ll be in pretty good shape from picking up full court every game.” -via Sports Illustrated / September 21, 2023
