The Dallas Mavericks and Christian Wood have opened discussions on a contract extension, sources tell Marc Stein of Substack.
Wood became extension eligible on Dec. 24th. Wood can sign an extension with the Mavericks for as much as $77 million over four years.
Dallas is unlikely to offer Wood the full four years. If the Mavericks are unable to come to terms on an extension with Wood, then they will likely explore his trade market ahead of the Feb. 9th deadline.
Wood has played for seven teams in seven NBA seasons and is in Year 3 of a three-year, $41 million deal he signed with the Houston Rockets in 2020.
