There were only 2 rounds played so far and it’s still very beginning of the Second Stage in NKL. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most important game in the last round took place in Silute between Telsiai and Silute on Saturday night. Telsiai was defeated by Silute on the road 92-81. Silute outrebounded Telsiai 40-25 including a 28-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. They shot the lights out from three sinking 12 long-distance shots on high 57.1 percentage. The former international center Valdas Vasylius (202-83, college: ODU) scored 15 points and 9 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and Rokas Maciulis (194-0) chipped in 14 points and 7 rebounds during the contest. Silute’s coach Kestutis Macijauskas used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Ovidijus Kaminskis (195-91) responded with 23 points and 5 rebounds (on 10-of-11 shooting from the field). Silute are looking forward to face Suduva-Mantinga in Marijampole in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Telsiai will play on the road against Zalgiris II in Kaunas and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
The game between Top Four teams took place in Marijampole. host Suduva-Mantinga smashed Gargzdu 95-73. Evaldas Dziaugys (196-96) notched 22 points and 8 rebounds to lead the effort and Aurimas Urbonas supported him with 17 points and 9 assists. Suduva-Mantinga’s coach Marius Kiltinavicius felt very confident that he used 10 players and allowed the starting five to rest. Even 23 points and 5 rebounds by Mantas Ruikis (197-85) did not help to save the game for Gargzdu. Suduva-Mantinga will play against Silute at home in the next round where they are favorite. Gargzdu will play against Vilkaviskis and hopes to get back on the winning track.
An interesting game took place in Joniskis where Kretinga was upset on the court of Delikatesas 82-72 on Saturday. The best player for the winners was Donnell Cegers who scored 19 points and 6 rebounds. Aidas Viskontas produced 19 points and 5 assists for the guests. Delikatesas will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Kretinga will play against Vilnius and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

There were no shocking results in the other games in round 2: Vilnius won against Mazeikiai on the opponent’s court 67-63. Neptunas-Akv. unfortunately lost to Vytis in a home game 70-77. Vilkaviskis recorded a loss to LSU-Atletas on the road 78-88.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 22 points by Mantas Serksnas of Vilkaviskis.

Suduva-Mantinga – Gargzdu 95-73

The game between Top Four teams took place in Marijampole. host Suduva-Mantinga smashed Gargzdu 95-73. Suduva-Mantinga players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists. Evaldas Dziaugys (196-96) notched 22 points and 8 rebounds to lead the effort and point guard Aurimas Urbonas (198-93) supported him with 17 points and 9 assists. Suduva-Mantinga’s coach Marius Kiltinavicius felt very confident that he used 10 players and allowed the starting five to rest. Even 23 points and 5 rebounds by Mantas Ruikis (197-85) did not help to save the game for Gargzdu. Marius Runkauskas (186-86, agency: BIG) added 18 points for the guests. Four Gargzdu players scored in double figures. Suduva-Mantinga will play against Silute at home in the next round where they are favorite. Gargzdu will play against Vilkaviskis and hopes to get back on the winning track.

There was a minor upset when Mazeikiai was defeated at home by Vilnius 67-63 on Saturday. The best player for the winners was Adas Simonis (192-1) who scored 25 points. Center Rokas Jocius (208-3) chipped in 16 points and 5 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Modestas Zaunieriunas (189-94) produced 18 points and 5 rebounds and Medas Kuprijanovas (197-96) added 5 points and 7 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Vilnius will meet at home Kretinga in the next round. Mazeikiai will play against Neptunas-Akv. and hope to secure a win.

An interesting game took place in Joniskis where Kretinga was upset on the court of Delikatesas 82-72 on Saturday. Delikatesas forced 23 Kretinga turnovers. Very predictable result in Klaipeda where Vytis defeated Neptunas-Akv. 77-70 on Saturday. Strangely Neptunas-Akv. outrebounded Vytis 45-29 including a 15-3 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The best player for the winners was Aurelijus Pukelis (205-94) who had a double-double by scoring 21 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. Marijus Uzupis (197-93) chipped in 18 points and 6 rebounds. Four Vytis players scored in double figures. Center Oskaras Pleikys (202-1, agency: BIG) produced a double-double by scoring 17 points, 17 rebounds and 4 assists and Gabrielius Mazeika (205-3) added 23 points respectively for the hosts. Vytis will meet Palanga on the road in the next round. Neptunas-Akv. will play against Mazeikiai and hope to secure a win.

Not a big story in a game in Kaunas where Vilkaviskis was defeated by LSU-Atletas 88-78 on Saturday. LSU-Atletas looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. The best player for the winners was point guard Karolis Babkauskas (185-91, agency: BIG) who had a double-double by scoring 12 points, 6 rebounds and 10 assists. Gytis Sirutavicius (195-83) chipped in 21 points. Four LSU-Atletas players scored in double figures. Augustinas Venckus (190-97) produced 19 points and 5 assists and Mantas Serksnas (200-96) added 22 points (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) respectively for the guests. Both coaches used bench players saving starting five for next games. LSU-Atletas will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Vilkaviskis will play against Gargzdu in Gargzdai and hope to secure a win.
