Round 3 most important game was a defeat of French Gravelines-Dunkerque (2-1). They were defeated by Czech Nymburk (2-1) 72-57 on Wednesday night. Nymburk looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. It was a great evening for Jaromir Bohacik (197-1992, agency: Octagon Europe) who led his team to a victory scoring 19 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists. American point guard Ty Gordon (185-1998, college: Nicholls St.) helped adding 17 points and 7 assists. The best for the losing side was Cameroonian center Landry Nnoko (208-1994, college: Clemson) with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 11 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Gravelines-Dunkerque will play next round against strong Manisa trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Nymburk will try to continue on its current victory against Zaragoza at home.
Very significant was Portuguese FC Porto’s (#2) 87-81 road victory against German Goettingen. It was an exceptional evening for American point guard Anthony Barber (188-1994, college: NC State) who led the winners and scored 21 points and 5 assists. Cleveland Melvin accounted for 16 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Australian forward Grant Anticevich (205-1999, college: California) came up with 22 points for BG Goettingen in the defeat. BG Goettingen’s coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn’t help. FC Porto will play against Balkan (#4) in Botevgrad in the next round. Goettingen will play at home against Bilbao and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
A very close game took place in Manisa between Spanish Zaragoza and Turkish Manisa. Zaragoza (2-1) got a very close victory on the road over Manisa (0-3). Zaragoza managed to escape with a 3-point win 68-65 on Wednesday evening. The best player for the winners was Trae Bell-Haynes who scored 12 points and 7 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was Emanuel Terry who recorded a double-double by scoring 17 points and 12 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Zaragoza will meet Nymburk on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Manisa will play against Gravelines and hopes to get finally their first victory.

There were no shocking results in the rest of the games of round 3: Bilbao destroyed Balkan on the opponent’s court 94-62. Winless Jonava lost to undefeated Bahcesehir in a home game 67-91. Sporting recorded a loss to Legia on the road 84-93. ZZ Leiden lost to undefeated Chemnitz on its own court 58-88. Oradea was smashed by Varese in a road game 81-100.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 16 points by Gabe Brown of Varese.



Balkan – Bilbao 62-94

Rather expected game in Botevgrad where Bulgarian Balkan (0-3) was crushed by Spanish Surne Bilbao (3-0) 94-62 on Wednesday. Bilbao dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Balkan‘s 24. Bilbao looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The best player for the winners was American point guard Adam Smith (185-1992, college: Georgia Tech) who scored 25 points. Estonian point guard Kristian Kullamaee (193-1999) chipped in 13 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was Dimitar Dimitrov (203-1993) who recorded 19 points and 8 rebounds and Danish-Ivorian center Jonas Zohore (210-1991, agency: BIG) added 11 points and 8 rebounds respectively. Four Balkan players scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Surne Bilbao will meet Goettingen (#3) on the road in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Balkan will play against FC Porto and hopes to get finally their first victory.
