Alvin Gentry Enters Virus Protocol After Testing Positive For COVID-19

Coach Alvin Gentry revealed to NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski that he has tested positive for COVID-19 Tuesday and will be out for the Kings’ game against the Wizards (15-13) and possibly more.

Gentry says he is asymptomatic but does have a scratchy throat. To clear protocols, Gentry needs to register two negative PCR tests within a 24-hour-period. The Kings canceled their morning shootaround and are testing players and staff to figure out whether or not there are more positive tests per Woj. They join the Lakers and Raptors amongst teams that have recently canceled practices after a player or staffer entered virus protocols.

The League is currently facing an outbreak with the Bulls and could be having growing concerns about the Nets (20-8). Brooklyn has seven players in COVID-19 protocol, including James Harden and LaMarcus Aldridge. The NBA has postponed two games, the Bulls-Pacers on Tuesday and Bulls-Raptors on Thursday.

Sacramento has not decided who will be acting head coach but assistants Mike Longabardi and Doug Christie are the leading candidates to take over temporarily.

The Kings are currently 10th in the League with an 11-17 record. Gentry took the head coach job over after Luke Walton was fired midseason after starting the season with a 6-11 record. Gentry previously coached the Heat, Pistons, Clippers, Suns, and Pelicans.
