Dillon Brooks did not score tonight, but Ime Udoka specifically brought up the defense he played on Victor Wembanyama: “Don’t always get a lot of credit when you’re not scoring, but what he did for the game, the way he impacted it, I think it was great.” – 11:30 PM
Tom Orsborn @tom_orsborn
Udoka on Brooks battling Wemby: “No matter where (he was), top of the key, on the elbow, he had a body on him the whole time. (Brooks) denied a bunch of catches, pushed him off his spots and then even on the post he was fighting him and pushing him off the blocks.” – 11:28 PM
Tom Orsborn @tom_orsborn
Devin on Wemby’s off night:
He’s not going to be perfect. Wemby is still human at the end of the day. There are games where he might not have a great game, and that’s OK. We have got to be able to pick him up…I know next game he will be better, so I am excited for it.” – 11:25 PM
Adam Spolane @AdamSpolane
Alperen Sengun on scoring against Victor Wembenyama: “He’s so tall, really. He’s really tall, but he’s not that strong yet, so I was going into his chest and put him under the rim. They didn’t double me tonight that much, so I worked under the rim.” – 11:07 PM

Paul Garcia @PaulGarciaNBA
Wemby finished with 10 points, his lowest amount since December 7.
Weird game for him to get comfortable. Questionable entering with injury, went to locker room in 2Q, and then foul trouble in 3Q.
Rockets had Brooks guarding him, but also swarmed him nonstop for most of night. – 10:28 PM
Matthew Tynan @Matthew_Tynan
Sengun had really active hands against Victor post/face-ups off switches, but I thought Brooks was huge defensively. Kept Wemby from getting to his spots and just muddied up SA’s offense in Vic-centric actions. – 10:28 PM
Tom Orsborn @tom_orsborn
More Pop from his 46-second presser: “Young group needs to understand the road is a lot different than at home & it requires a little bit more mental toughness and we didn’t have that tonight.”

More on this storyline

David Hardisty: Ime Udoka talked about #Rockets players that let missed shots early impact them for the rest of the game, not seeking other ways to contribute. He later specified Alperen Sengun was one of them. “It seems like (Alpi) makes a quick move and misses it and kind of hangs his head at times. You have to continue to play.” -via Twitter @clutchfans / March 1, 2024
I’ve also seen him have several conversations with Şengün, VanVleet and Udoka about in-game schematics and know he wants to find a groove. He just hasn’t been able to do so consistently, which leads to Udoka going with other options to close games. On the whole, Green’s decision-making has improved since last season. Of course, there are still instances where he drives into oncoming traffic and his handle still needs some tightening, but as far as making the right reads the third-year guard has gotten better. That’s a natural development playing with better players around you. -via The Athletic / February 29, 2024
