USC basketball coach Andy Enfield recently provided an update on the progress of Bronny James, who has been on the road to recovery after suffering a cardiac arrest during a workout in July.

During the team’s first practice of the season, James was noticeably absent, but Coach Enfield expressed optimism about his condition.

“Bronny’s doing very well,” stated Enfield, per Ohm Youngmisuk of ESPN. However, he refrained from providing specific details about James’ medical status, respecting the privacy of the young athlete.

Despite his absence from practice, Enfield emphasized that James has been actively engaged in his academic pursuits.

“He’s going to class and doing extremely well in school, and we’re really excited for him,” noted the coach, highlighting James’ excellent grades and dedication as a student-athlete.

Enfield also acknowledged that James has been present when possible, indicating his commitment to both his education and basketball journey.

“He’s around when he can be,” said Enfield, underscoring James’ balanced approach to his recovery and academic responsibilities.

Bronny’s health scare occurred on July 24, 2023, when he collapsed at the Galen Center at the University of Southern California due to a congenital heart defect. He was released from the hospital on July 27, and his journey to recovery has been marked by positive developments.
