Ty Lue Following Loss To Grizzlies: Clippers ‘Playing Too Slow’

Ty Lue said that the Los Angeles Clippers needed to play at a faster tempo following the team’s 105-101 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies.

The Clippers have lost four straight games since trading for James Harden.

“I think playing too slow, just playing too slow. We get rebounds, you get stops, you got to push it. On makes, we got to push it, get up quick and attack early…so until we want to play hard on both ends of the floor, if we want to do things hard: cuts, screens, running the screen, sprinting the floor, then it is going to be tough nights, every single night,” said Lue following the game.

Lue also said that James Harden needed to get more comfortable and play his game. Harden finished with 11 points, with the Clippers outscored by 28 points in his minutes.

“Just play, like just do your thing. Like, if you do it too much, we’ll let you know …  we just got to make sure we get James as comfortable as possible, because he’s going to be huge for our team and what we’re trying to do,” said Lue.

Paul George added that the Clippers have too many ballhandlers.

“I think it’s just, when you got a lot of ballhandlers, a lot of playmakers, and I think just from guys used to having it, you’re used to hanging around and getting the ball after rebounds, after steals. Whereas before, you have those guys who would get out and know they got to be in front of the ball to stretch the floor out and be ready to catch and shoot in transition plays,” said George.

The Clippers play the Nuggets on Tuesday for the In-Season Tournament.
