Two-time NBA champion and Naismith Basketball Hall of Famer Bill Walton passed away today at the age of 71 following a prolonged battle with cancer.
Walton, a dominant force at UCLA and in the NBA, was surrounded by his family at the time of his passing.
NBA Commissioner Adam Silver issued a statement honoring Walton’s contributions to basketball both on and off the court.
Silver praised Walton’s unique skills, which redefined the center position and earned him numerous accolades, including NBA regular-season and Finals MVP awards, and spots on the NBA’s 50th and 75th Anniversary Teams.
