What happens when the Boston Celtics trot out their bench guys against a bottom-feeding NBA team like the Charlotte Hornets? Evidently, a 33-point win for the Celtics.
Payton Pritchard popped off, the G League guys had their fun, and the Hornets sulked away in sorrow after a trouncing at TD Garden.
Let’s check out three things you might have missed.
1. Derrick White-Drew Peterson
There are a couple of layers to this.
The first funny interaction wasn’t caught on camera. Derrick White came out of the tunnel during the game and looked for a spot on the bench. Drew Peterson instinctively got out of his seat and went to sit on the floor. Luckily, White pointed out that there was an extra seat for him to steal.
Watching Peterson instantaneously get up for White was hilarious, and the extra gesture by White was also nice to see.
Later on in the game, Peterson hit a corner three in front of White and the rest of the Celtics bench.
Again, not caught on camera, but right after the shot, White turned to someone and mimicked Peterson’s quirky jump shot. He was clearly enamored with the release.
2. Bench reaction to Xavier Tillman
Marques Bolden was lost on this play.
Xavier Tillman got him in the post and hit him with a mean drop-step, and the entire Celtics bench was on their feet.
3. Tap Pass City
Holy bad defense, Batman.
What are the Hornets doing here? Why is Bolden still at the free-throw line?
Regardless, we’ve seen Kristaps Porzingis break out the tap pass lately, but now, Luke Kornet gave it a whirl. Payton Pritchard found him down low, he tapped it to Neemias Queta, and the Portuguese behemoth threw it down.
