The Houston Rockets lost a couple key players to injury in their last game against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Dec. 1, and there is an update on both of their statuses.
Big man Christian Wood’s ankle sprain is not considered serious, but his status for the next game against the Orlando Magic on Dec. 3 is up in the air, according to Tim MacMahon of ESPN.
Wood isn’t expected to be out for an extended period of time.
However, there is some concern that guard Kevin Porter Jr. will need to miss some time after aggravating a left thigh contusion that sidelined him for three games, per MacMahon.
Porter has reportedly “amazed” Rockets staffers with his toughness in playing through that injury.
Wood, 26, is averaging a double-double with 16.0 points, 11.2 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.0 block per game in 21 games (31.6 minutes per game).
Porter, 21, is averaging 13.1 points, 4.6 rebounds, 5.8 assists and 1.4 steals per game in 18 games (30.9 minutes per game).
Rookie Alperen Sengun and Daniel Theis will likely get more minutes in the middle without Wood, while Jae’Sean Tate will handle a lot on offense without Porter, as he is coming off the best performance of his career with 32 points, 10 rebounds, 7 assists, 2 steals and 5 blocks.
