The Charlotte Hornets have reached a contract agreement with R.J. Hampton, per Chris Haynes of Bleacher Report. The exact details of the deal are yet to be announced.
Hampton ended the second-half of his 2022-23 season with the Detroit Pistons. His non-guaranteed $1.9MM salary for next season wasn’t picked up by the club, thus making him a free agent.
Picked by the Milwaukee Bucks for the 24th selection of the 2020 Draft, Hampton was immediately dealt to the Denver Nuggets in his rookie year. He then went on to play his next three seasons with the Orlando Magic, tallying averages of 8.0 points, 3.1 boards and 2.3 assists for 116 regular season matches.
The addition of the 22-year-old further adds backcourt depth for Charlotte as they already have LaMelo Ball, Brandon Miller and the newly-signed Frank Ntilkina.
