Oklahoma City Thunder vs. Los Angeles Clippers Team News

The Golden State Warriors would have taken Josh Giddey at No.7, had the Thunder passed on him at 2021 NBA Draft. Josh Mussato of the Oklahoman revealed this piece of information in his article detailing the events that led to the Thunder taking Giddey No.6 overall. Giddey’s father, Warrick, told the Oklahoman that the Warriors had called agent Daniel Maldovan to inform him about their plan to draft the Aussie playmaking forward at No.7. Unfortunately for Golden State, the Thunder pulled off one of the biggest surprises in the draft by taking Giddey at No.6. And the rest was history.

Clippers head coach Tyron Lue hinted at the possibility of changing his lineup to address their anemic offense, according to Mirjam Swanson of the Orange County Register. Through five games, Los Angeles is scoring 102.8 points on a 42 percent FG clip, which ranks 23rd and 26th in the league, respectively.

“That’s the biggest thing you go back and forth with. Just continuing to mess with the rotations and try to take away those stints where we go four, five, six minutes without scoring when PG is off the floor. We have to do something about that. So we’ve got something we’ll try tomorrow,” Lue said when asked if he now considers tweaking the lineup.

Oklahoma City Thunder vs Los Angeles Clippers Preview

After pulling off a come-from-behind against the Los Angeles Lakers, the Thunder still had no answers on containing the Golden State Warriors. OKC fell prey to the Thunder for the second time in four days, scoring just 82 points on a 35.8 percent FG clip and 20.5 percent from the 3pt area. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander averages a team-high 22.0 points pm 44.7 percent FG shooting, while Darius Bazley and Giddey paced the team in rebounds (6.5 RPG) and assists (5.7 APG), respectively.

The Clippers saw some vintage performance from Paul George, who erupted for 42 points on a 15-for-24 shooting on Friday. Sadly, the All-Star’s high-scoring performance proved still not enough for the Clippers to outslug the Blazers, 111-92. The latest setback handed Los Angeles their fourth loss in five games, putting them at the bottom of the Western Conference standings.

Oklahoma City Thunder vs. Los Angeles Clippers Predictions

The Clippers held a 2-1 record over the Thunder in three meetings last season. During that stretch, Los Angeles was scoring 113 points on 45 percent FG shooting. Back then, the Clips had both Kawhi Leonard and George together on the court, forming a devasting 1-2 combo for any opposing teams. But with Kawhi still rehabilitating an injured knee, George has to carry the large chunk of the scoring load for his team. After George’s 27.6 PPG, only three Clippers are averaging double figures in points. Reggie Jackson came in at a distant second with his 14.0 PPG while Luke Kennard and Eric Bledsoe chipped in 12.4 PPG and 10.0 PPG, respectively.

It would be interesting to see how huge Lue’s forthcoming lineup changes would impact the Clippers. George is going to deliver his usual 20-25 points in any given night, but his teammates have to contribute strong numbers to give the Clippers a chance at winning ballgames.

The Thunder, meanwhile, would need a repeat of their performance against the Lakers a few days ago to have a realistic shot at pulling off another upset.

Oklahoma City Thunder vs. Los Angeles Clippers Betting Picks

Moneyline and ATS: The Clippers will score their second win of the season and cover the double-digit spread.

O/U: The Clippers’ offense finally breaks through, scoring above their season averages to push the total past 212 points.
