Mitchell Robinson Invites HS Coach To Live With Him in Heartwarming Story

Knicks center Mitchell Robinson has been living with his old high school coach Butch Stockton and it’s the most heartwarming story you’ll read all day.

Stockton coached Robinson at Chalmette High School in Louisiana and tragically lost his wife, Dawn, to cancer in September after being married for 31 years.

At Dawn’s funeral, Robinson invited his old coach to live with him in New York and plans to have him there for the rest of the season.

The pair reportedly watch movies together and Stockton helps to look after Robinson’s dogs.

The HS coach spoke about his new living situation during the Knicks broadcast and shared that Robinson visited Dawn every day when she was in hospital.

“He said, ‘Coach there’s no reason for you to stay in Louisiana anymore. You come to New York with me and enjoy yourself,’” Stockton told MSG Network. “Get your mind back straight because you know how much you loved your wife. I loved your wife.”

Robinson recorded nine rebounds and scored six points during the Knicks’ 118-112 win over the Detroit Pistons on Thursday night.

He shared with reporters after the game that his coach is a “great guy”, one that has helped him immensely.

“He’s a great guy, he helped me get to where I’m at,” Robinson said Thursday night. “… So it works out for the best. I can help him out like he helped me. … He looked out for me. He helped me get to where I’m at, I feel like, so it’s the least that I can do. It’s been cool.”

The 25-year-old has a big part of the Knicks’ 11-7 start, with his fantastic offensive rebounding rate.

His current 104 offensive rebounds tally leads the league, which averages out to 5.8 OR per night, streets ahead of Clint Capela (4.5) in second.
