The Dallas Mavericks have ruled out Luka Doncic in their Sunday road game against the Utah Jazz, joining Christian Wood (thumb) and Maxi Kleber (hamstring) on the unavailable list.
Doncic was listed on a day-to-day basis with a left ankle sprain, which he sustained moments after tip-off of the Mavs’ eventual 99-95 win over the Phoenix Suns last Thursday.
The shelving only serves as a precautionary measure from Dallas to preserve their franchise cornerstone to make a necessary recovery.
This season, the Slovenian sensation is registering a career high 33.0 points and 49.7 percent field goal shooting. He is also crashing 8.9 boards and dishing out 8.4 assists in 45 games played so far.
Doncic, who was recently named as a starter in the upcoming 2023 NBA All-Star Game in Salt Lake City, will likely be replaced by young wingman Josh Green in the starting lineup against the Jazz.
The Mavs will enter the Utah venue holding a 26-24 record, the sixth-best record currently in the tight Western Conference standings.
