Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic’s on-court chemistry didn’t click straight away, but the pair have now formed a solid partnership that extends off the floor too.
That’s not to say that they don’t drive each other crazy from time to time.
“Does he ever annoy me? Yeah, people get annoying,” Irving said of Doncic after Dallas’ 118-99 loss to the Nuggets. “He’s not the only person that annoys me. I annoy him too. But yeah, we’ve just spent a lot of time off the court, just enjoying each other’s presence, our families getting to know each other.”
“We annoy each other when the wine gets going, start telling jokes, and he starts bringing up how he beat me when I was in Brooklyn – just all the extra memories and stuff like that. Annoying is part of the friendship and part of brotherhood, so I’m not mad at it.”
He was also asked what would Doncic’s value be if he had to put a number to it.
“Whatever the super, supermax is,” Irving said.
Unfortunately for the Mavericks stars, they’ve only played in 20 games together in 2024-25, due to various injuries on both sides.
Irving returned from a bulging disc injury after a five-game absence against the Nuggets, but Luka remains out with yet another calf injury.
However, there is good news.
Doncic is reportedly expected to make his comeback before the All-Star break, as broken by TNT’s sideline reporter Jared Greenberg on air during the Mavericks-Nuggets matchup.
After an ugly loss to Denver where no Dallas player scored more than 15 points, it is obvious the Mavs need Luka back playing beside Kyrie as soon as possible.
