Josh Giddey is being investigated by police after allegations he was in a relationship with an underage girl came to light, but his family believe he has been ‘stitched up’.
Photos and videos of Giddey with a young girl surfaced on X earlier this month, which has since prompted an investigation from Newport Beach Police Department.
The girl allegedly attends school in the Newport Beach area. The age of consent in California is 18, while it is 16 in Oklahoma.
The 21-year-old OKC star grew up in Melbourne, Australia, and the source close to the family has told the Daily Mail that there is more to the story that meets the eye.
“‘This kind of situation would be very trying for a family that is pretty normal other than having a 21-year old multi-millionaire son playing in the NBA,’ a source said.
“‘They are the most down-to-earth people you could meet. They’re very humble. Josh is a good kid and knowing the family, I thought there’s something more to this because he’s not like that. The consensus is he’s been royally stitched up.’
“The source said no-one who knows Giddey believed he would ever knowingly engage in an inappropriate relationship.
“‘Josh grew up with a family that didn’t always tell him he was a superstar. Very talented but never thought he was better than everyone. Straight to the NBL for one season before being drafted,’ the source said.”
So far, Giddey has remained active on the Thunder’s roster, although some teammates have deleted past social media posts involving him.
All the drama doesn’t seem to be affecting OKC on the court too much, as they are still 12-6 and third in the Western Conference behind the Timberwolves and Nuggets respectively.
