Jaylen Brown has had an incredible offseason. NBA Champion, Conference Finals and Finals MVP, dropped a hit rap song, started his own foundation in Boston XChange, all while showing off his own signature shoe. Nobody knew what brand the shoe was under and in typical Jaylen Brown fashion, he decided to go his own way. Brown announced his own signature sneaker under his new performance brand called 741.
For years, Jaylen Brown has been critical of Nike and according to Complex, he turned down over $50 million in endorsement deals from other sneaker companies to pursue full ownership and creative control of his own brand.
Brown would go on to say, “the understanding of ownership and value is what’s important for the next generation of athletes. It’s time to think different and be different… create new ideas.”
The name “741” comes from Brown’s personal connection with the numbers as 7, 4, and 1 have appeared frequently. It represents spiritual awaking, hard work, and new beginnings. Brown said, “741 is more than just a sneaker brand- it’s a statement about independence, creativity, and ownership.”
Brown would also find inspiration for this project through Kobe Bryant’s unrealized vision of launching his own sneaker brand. He says, “Kobe’s journey taught me about being fearless and pushing sports, along with society, to new heights. That’s the mindset I’m bringing to 741.”
The official 741 account posted their welcome statement:
“Welcome to 741, the future of Performance.
With innovation at its core, 741 fuses advanced technology and minimalist design, redefining what it means to step into your potential. These sneakers are engineered for champions, built for those who seek excellence in every step.
Step into tomorrow, today.”
Jaylen Brown’s sneaker will be available for preorder at 741performance.com soon, with October 22nd being the release date online and at select retailers.
