Memphis Grizzlies swingman Danny Green has joined ESPN in a part-time analyst role, Damichael Cole of Memphis Commercial Appeal reported.
Green reportedly signed a television deal with the sports giant network and is set to make 15 appearances to deliver analysis and insights on the occurrences around the league.
For Green, this opportunity sets him up for a potential broadcasting gig in the future – something that he “always wanted to venture out into.”
“When I’m done playing, it’s something that I always wanted to venture out into,” Green told Cole about his new sideline career at ESPN. “This an opportunity to build a resume and can get some reps.”
Being a top-tier role player who managed to play in three different championship teams and share the court with plenty of the game’s greatest, Green’s capabilities to seize the position speaks for itself. As such, he also owns and hosts his very own “Inside the Green Room” podcast that’s been running since 2018.
Green joins fellow NBA players Draymond Green and C.J. McCollum who are working as analysts besides fulfilling their professional basketball duties. Green has been stapled on Turner Sports, while McCollum is with ESPN.
In spite of all these, the veteran isn’t letting this new role bother him as a new member of the Grizzlies. As the lone player of the team who holds above 10 years of experience in the NBA, Green is vying to become a vocal mentor for the Ja Morant-led promising squad.
Though it remains yet to be determined on when he’ll return after sustaining an ACL and LCL tear in his left knee last postseason as a member of the Philadelphia 76ers, Green remains optimistic to play sooner this new season.
“My main focus is getting my body back and being healthy and playing as soon as possible,” Green said. “While I have the time now, I get a chance to venture out and get some reps in.”
“Surprisingly enough, a lot of people don’t realize how much downtime we really have.”
With how good and confident Memphis absolutely came from last season, Green acknowledges the idea that he’ll get backlash and criticism from opponents across the association.
“I’m sure I’ll get some heat,” Green said. “We already have a target on our back because of how good (the Grizzlies) were last year, so we have a target on our back regardless.”
