Al Horford questionable Friday for home opener vs. Toronto

Al Horford is officially questionable for Friday’s game against the Toronto Raptors. Horford has been in quarantine since testing positive for COVID earlier this month and missed the Celtics season opener in their loss to the New York Knicks.

Horford also missed the Celtics final two games of the preseason against the Orlando Magic and Miami Heat in the league’s health and safety protocols. Horford joined Jaylen Brown as the Celtics’ two players to contract the virus during training camp, with the latter coming out of quarantine and straight into a career-high 46 point night against the Knicks.

Horford, who rejoined the Celtics in a trade that saw Kemba Walker head to the Oklahoma City Thunder, participated in the team’s first two preseason games. He came off the bench in the first and started alongside Robert Williams in the second.

The team also announced that Josh Richardson, who missed the Knicks game due to a migraine, is probable to play against the Raptors. Marcus Smart, who suffered a right knee effusion during the season opener, is likely to participate in Friday’s game. Smart played 45 minutes against the Knicks, providing the team with 15 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 assists on his first night as the team’s official starting point guard.

With a potentially healthy roster, the Celtics will be looking to even out their win/loss column by defeating the Toronto Raptors in their second game of the season. For their part, the Raptors are coming off a loss to the Washington Wizards as they begin to navigate their way through a competitive rebuild.

The Celtics and Raptors will tip-off at 7:30 pm EST in their home opener at TD Garden.
