Draymond Green has once more opened up about punching Jordan Poole and reflected on his biggest doubt following the incident.
It’s not everyday a teammate punches another teammate at training camp, so when it happened at the start of last season at Golden State it was a big deal.
Following the incident, Green says he worried about not getting a chance to redeem himself, which could have ultimately led to him having to find another NBA team to play for.
“What gave me doubt is that I didn’t know if I would have the opportunity to redeem myself,” told ESPN‘s Ohm Youngmisuk this week. “Not [because] that thing necessarily happened. It’s that, do you have an opportunity to make it right, or is that just it? It doesn’t change what happened. It doesn’t change that I was at fault. But I’m a human being, and human beings do wrong.
“But how do you stand when it goes wrong, when things ain’t on your side. When everybody’s against you, when the world is saying, ‘Oh man, now all of a sudden you’re not worth the money you make.’ Or, ‘You’re the cancer and you’re the problem’ four championships later.”
The 33-year-old is entering his 12th NBA season for the Warriors and is placing great significance on the year.
“I look at this as one of the most important years of my career,” Green said. “… It’s not to redeem anything about Draymond. My goal is that we can help Chris Paul get his first championship.”
No doubt the Warriors added Paul to their roster for one reason – to win – and he has a good track record.
During his first season in Phoenix in 2020-21, Paul helped the franchise go from 34 wins the season before to the NBA Finals.
The NBA world waits with baited breath to see how Paul will fare on his new team alongside four-time NBA champions and fellow veterans in Klay Thompson, Steph Curry and Green.
