Following the sudden firing of Doc Rivers by the 76ers, there were some speculations that the 61-year-old coach could move on from coaching.
That is not the case, according to NBA insider Chris Haynes. He says that Rivers is in no rush to take the next job and will weigh his options.
“The Sixers basically felt like Doc didn’t reach the standard that they brought him in to reach when they’re talking about making the conference finals. He fell short, he did,” Haynes said on NBA TV.
“They believe they have a roster that was capable of winning the title this year. There’s a lot of pressure and stress over there with the organization that tried with the window that they have with Joel Embiid being in his prime and being healthy. Obviously, the first person to go is often the head coach…
“As for Doc Rivers and his future, sources close to me told me he still does have interest in being a head coach in the NBA under the right circumstance… he still believes he has a lot left in the tank. But he wants to take his time and make sure he picks the right situation.”
