Derrick White on attempting to block Victor Wembanyama: “I’m not an idiot”

In a dominant display, the Boston Celtics (26-6) asserted their prowess with a resounding 134-101 victory over the struggling San Antonio Spurs (5-27) on Sunday night.

During the third quarter, Spursā€™ rookie sensation Victor Wembanyama showcased his athleticism with a powerful one-handed slam in a fast break, eluding the chasing Derrick White.

When asked about attempting to block Wembanyama, White responded with a smile, stating, ā€œIā€™m not an idiot. I was hoping heā€™d take another dribble, but he just picked it up, and I never saw it again. I assumed heā€™s going to take one more dribble. But yeah, that was crazy.ā€

White acknowledged Wembanyamaā€™s unique talent, emphasizing his length and the special qualities he brings to the court.

ā€œHis length and the things he can do on the court are pretty special. Heā€™s just starting to come into his own, figuring out how to play in this league. Just a guy with his size to do what he can do is obviously pretty special. Heā€™s just going to keep getting better,ā€ White praised.

Wembanyamaā€™s impressive performance in the game included 21 points and 7 rebounds, contributing to his season averages of 18.8 points, 10.4 rebounds, and 3 assists in 29.7 minutes per game.
