After posting a sizzling 37 points to lead the Chicago Bulls to their season opener against the Miami Heat on Wednesday, DeMar DeRozan cements his name on a rare team club that only features the legendary Michael Jordan.
He just became the first player in Bulls history since Jordan to drop 37 points on a season opening – establishing his case as one of the most deadly scorers in the perimeter.
His Airness etched up high-scoring numbers for multiple times in a season opener, with 54 markers in 1989 being the highest.
“He’s a great offensive player,” Heat coach Erik Spoelstra told reporters about DeRozan. “But when you’re dealing with great offensive players, there’s gotta be extra efforts on top of that.”
Besides producing tons of scoring marks, the All-star swingman had nine assists, six rebounds, two steals and a block en route to an overall all-around performance.
