Dejounte Murray Trade to Lakers Suddenly Much Less Likely

Dejounte Murray

Dejounte Murray finding his way to the Lakers is looking unlikely.

That’s according to NBA insider Marc Stein, who had this to say in his latest Substack article:

“League sources say that there has been little-to-no trade dialogue in recent days between the Hawks and the Lakers when it comes to former All-Star Dejounte Murray,” Stein wrote.

“Trade talks tend to be fluid this time of year and can be easily sparked up again, but one source briefed on the talks termed the idea of Murray landing with the Lakers before the deadline, as of this Sunday, as ‘unrealistic.’ Among the factors for that: D’Angelo Russell’s strong play this month.”

Russell has been on a scorching run of late. He’s averaging 27.8 points and 6.2 assists per game on 52.2 percent field goal shooting and 57.4 percent from three.

Before going on his recent tear, he was putting up 15.4 points and 6.1 assists on 46.9 percent field goal shooting and 39 percent from three.

Russell’s dramatic increase in production has roughly coincided with the intensifying of trade rumors with his name in them.

If this latest report from Marc Stein is anything to go by, Russell might’ve just saved himself from getting shipped out of town, and killed off a Dejounte Murray trade in the process.
