Crvena Zvezda mts Belgrade bolstered its backcourt with the addition of veteran point guard Stefan Markovic who signed until the end of the 2022-23 season, the club announced on Monday night. Markovic (1.98 meters, 33 years old) last played with Virtus Segafredo Bologna of Italy. He helped the team win the Italian League title last season, averaging 5.4 points, 4.4 assists, 3.6 rebounds and 1.3 steals. He also posted 3.6 points, 5.7 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 1.4 steals in the 7DAYS EuroCup helping Virtus to a 20-game unbeaten run before getting ousted in the semifinals. A premier perimeter defender, Markovic has previously played four seasons in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague, two apiece with Unicaja Malaga and Khimki Moscow Region. He made his debut with Unicaja in the 2014-15 season, and last played with Khimki in the 2018-19 campaign. In 91 career EuroLeague appearances, he has averaged 4.9 points, 4.0 assists and 2.3 rebounds. Markovic has additionally played 11 seasons in the EuroCup, where he ranks as the all-time leader in assists and steals. He grew up and started his professional career with Atlas and Hemofarm of his native Serbia, and also played with Benetton Treviso in Italy, Valencia Basker in Spain, Banvit Bandirma of Turkey and Zenit St Petersburg in Russia.
