Charles Barkley has suggested he could be done with television after his TNT contract expires in two years. Barkley has been part of the legendary cast of what’s widely considered to be the best sports show to ever grace TV, Inside the NBA, since the year 2000. Sitting alongside host Ernie Johnson and former NBA stars Kenny Smith and Shaquille O’Neal, Barkley remains one of the most entertaining sports analysts around.
On Tuesday, however, the Hall of Famer revealed he could call it quits after his contract with TNT runs out. Speaking on a call, per Brad Townsend, Barkley hinted his television career could be coming to an end.
“It’s been a great, great thing,” he was quoted as saying. “I love Ernie, Kenny, Shaq and everybody we work with. But I just don’t feel the need to work until the day I die. I don’t, man. I’ll be 61 years old if I finish out my contract. And I don’t want to die on TV. I want to die on the golf course or somewhere fishing. I don’t want to be sitting inside over [by] fat-ass Shaq [waiting] to drop dead.”
Golden State Warriors center Draymond Green has become a frequent feature on Inside the NBA and it’s likely he’s being groomed to join the group permanently once his playing days are done. Like Barkley, Green offers refreshingly honest takes. But there’s really no replacing Chuck.
