Celtics sign Miles Norris to two-way contract

Earlier today, the Boston Celtics announced that they waived Anton Watson, their second-round pick in the 2024 NBA Draft. In doing so, they cleared up a two-way contract slot, which they are now using to sign Miles Norris. Norris is a 6’7”, 24-year-old forward who was most recently playing in the G-League for the Memphis Hustle.

While in college, Miles played for the Oregon Ducks and was a teammate of Payton Pritchard’s when they won the National Championship in the 2018-2019 season. Norris went undrafted in 2023, signing a two-way contract with the Atlanta Hawks. He never made his NBA debut, and was waived by Atlanta in December 2023, signing on to their G-League affiliate, the College Park Skyhawks, for the remainder of the season. He signed with the Memphis Grizzlies just before the current season, and was waived just three days later with the intention of having him play for their G-League affiliate, the Memphis Hustle.

In his first year in the G-League, Miles averaged 12.7 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 1.4 assists in 30.4 minutes per game (MPG). He did so while shooting 45.5% from the floor, 38.3% from three-point range, and 77.8% from the free-throw line. In his current season, he’s taken a step up, now averaging 17.1 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 1.5 assists with just a 0.2 MPG increase. He’s also raised his shooting splits, now with a field goal percentage of 45.9%, a three-point percentage of 39.5%, and a free-throw percentage of 86.4%.

By signing Norris to a two-way contract, he is now eligible to play in all 21 of the Boston Celtics remaining regular season games. However, he will not be able to join them in the playoffs, as two-way players are ineligible. With the end of the season closing in, the Celtics regulars are bound to see more rest days pop up to keep them healthy for the post-season. That could provide Miles with a path to his first NBA minutes, though he’ll likely spend most of his time in Maine.
