The Knicks have been a surprise packet this season and currently sit in fifth seed, while the Mavs are struggling to even stay in play-in contention.
No one is saying that Slovenian superstar Luka Doncic wants out. Yet.
He is under contract until 2026-27 and has a player option in his last year but if things continue to spiral in Dallas, who knows what could happen.
If a shock Doncic trade did happen, New York is certainly a team that can offer plenty of assets in a high-profile market.
“The New York Knicks have a pile of future draft picks,” via B/R. “And while RJ Barrett’s value has certainly gone down this season, Immanuel Quickley’s has risen, and the Knicks could try to bring Luka to the game’s biggest media market with a package like the ones it offered the Jazz for Donovan Mitchell.”
24-year-old Doncic would also be reunited with his old pal Jalen Brunson, someone he has proved he can reach the conference finals with and would have someone else to bounce off in a dynamic Mitchell Robinson.
Maybe there won’t be enough of a role for Julius Randle if Doncic was to head to New York but it would be a small price to pay to reel in one of the most prolific point scorers the modern game has seen.
Of course, this is all hypothetical, but if you look at how teams are placed at the moment, the Knicks are certainly a ripe contender if Doncic ever called time on Dallas.
