The Regular Season in VTB United League just started. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

Lokomotiv recorded a loss in Kazan on Saturday night. Visitors were defeated by UNICS 91-73. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when UNICS made 7 blocks. North Macedonian point guard Nenad Dimitrijevic (190-1998) fired 22 points and 7 assists for the winners. American center Jalen Reynolds (208-1992, college: Xavier) chipped in 16 points and 5 rebounds. American forward Okaro White (206-1992, college: FSU) produced 18 points and 5 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) for lost side. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. UNICS is looking forward to face N.Novgorod in Nizhny Novgorod in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Lokomotiv will play at home against Parma-Pari and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Another exciting game was played in Saint Petersburg between Uralmash and Zenit where Uralmash beat Zenit on the road 75-70. Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Javonte Douglas (203-1992, college: Montevallo) who helped to win the game recording 22 points and 9 rebounds. Garrett Nevels contributed with 19 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. French point guard Thomas Heurtel (189-1989, agency: Octagon Europe) answered with 4 points and 15 assists for Zenit. Zenit’s coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn’t help. Uralmash will play against Runa Basket in Moscow in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Zenit will play on the road against Samara to get more than just one victory in their record.

Other games of round 1 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
Enisey lost to Samara in a road game 63-83. Minsk lost to N.Novgorod at home 60-89. Avtodor lost to Runa Basket on the opponent’s court 79-87. CSKA managed to outperform Enisey in a home game 73-64.

CSKA – MBA Moscow 76-72

One of the most interesting games of round 1 was a derby match between two teams from Russia. CSKA won against visiting MBA Moscow 76-72. Senegalese-French Amath MBaye (205-1989, college: Oklahoma) stepped up and scored 16 points and 8 rebounds for the winners and Nigerian center Tonye Jekiri (212-1994, college: Miami, FL) chipped in 18 points (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). Four CSKA players scored in double figures. At the losing side guard Daniil Kasatkin (200-1999, college: Penn St., agency: Stanislav Ryzhov) responded with 21 points and forward Andrey Lopatin (206-1998, agency: Stanislav Ryzhov) scored 11 points and 8 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. CSKA’s supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Moscow .

There was no surprise when Enisey was crushed on the road by Samara 83-63 on Saturday. Samara looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Moldovan-Russian Aleksandr Gudumak (204-1993, agency: Stanislav Ryzhov) stepped up and scored 13 points and 4 assists for the winners and American Hayden Dalton (204-1996, college: Wyoming, agency: Slash Sports) chipped in 12 points and 6 rebounds. Five Samara players scored in double figures. Samara’s coach used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. At the losing side Canadian guard Xavier Rathan-Mayes (193-1994, college: FSU) responded with 22 points and American point guard Jeremiah Martin (189-1996, college: Memphis) scored 20 points and 4 assists. Samara will meet at home Zenit in the next round which should be another easy win for them. Enisey will have a break next round.

But Minsk was not able to use a home court advantage and was smashed by the opponent from Nizhny Novgorod 89-60 on Sunday night. N.Novgorod outrebounded Minsk 38-25 including 25 on the defensive glass. Guard Dmitry Khvostov (190-1989) stepped up and scored 11 points and 5 assists for the winners and forward Aleksandr Gankevich (201-1995, agency: BIG) chipped in 13 points.
