The most interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Athens: AEK (#4) and Peristeri (#5). AEK (9-5) won against visiting Peristeri (8-6) 68-64. Panamanian-American center Akil Mitchell (206-1992, college: Virginia) orchestrated the victory by scoring 9 points and 9 rebounds. The former international point guard Dimitris Flionis (188-1997) contributed with 14 points (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) for the winners. AEK’s coach Ilias Kantzouris used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. French point guard Sylvain Francisco (185-1997, agency: BeoBasket) replied with 17 points and 4 assists for Peristeri. AEK have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to third place. Peristeri at the other side dropped to the fourth position with six games lost. They share it with 3 other teams. Bottom-ranked Karditsas managed to get a second victory, breaking the eleven-game losing streak on Sunday night. This time newly promoted Karditsas won against ninth-ranked Apollon P. 80-65. It’s especially surprising that the victory came too easily and 15-point difference suggests that Karditsas is in a good shape to leave the bottom place. Sean Evans notched 13 points and 7 rebounds to lead the effort. Karditsas’ coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Even a double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds by Panagiotis Filippakos did not help to save the game for Apollon P.. Karditsas (2-12) moved-up to eleventh place, which they share with Lavrio.
