Experienced Naturalized American Point guard Giordan Watson (179-PG-1985) had an amazing evening in the last round for Craiova and that’s him to receive a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 11.
The 37-year old playmaker had the game-high 27 points adding three rebounds and eight assists for Craiova in his team’s victory, helping them to edge out Targu Mures (#8, 2-7) 90-86. Craiova maintains the 5th position in their group in Romanian Liga Nationala. They would have been even better if they hadn’t lost a few games earlier this season. Craiova will need more victories to improve their 6-4 record. In the team’s last game Watson had a remarkable 85.7% from 2-point range and got three three-pointers out of 6 attempts. He turned to be Craiova’s top player in his first season with the team. Central Michigan University graduate has very impressive stats this year. Watson is league’s best passer with 8.8apg. Watson is in league’s top in and averages solid 57.1% FGP and 48.9% from behind 3-point line.
The second most remarkable performance in last round’s games was young Serbian shooting guard Nemanja Manojlovic (197-SG-1993) of Miercurea Ciuc. Manojlovic impressed basketball fans with 31 points and 5 rebounds. Bad luck as Miercurea Ciuc lost that game 75-98 to the higher-ranked Sibiu (#6, 6-4). Miercurea Ciuc managed to keep the same 9th spot in Group A. 8 lost games are too many comparing to just two victories Miercurea Ciuc managed to get this year. Manojlovic is a newcomer at Miercurea Ciuc and it seems he did not have too much trouble to become one of team’s leaders. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 16.9ppg (#8).
The third best performed player last round was Swedish Jonathan Person (190-PG-1993) of Targu Mures (#8). Person showcased his all-around game by recording 20 points, seven rebounds and six assists in the last round. Despite Person’s great performance Targu Mures lost 86-90 to the higher-ranked Craiova (#5, 6-4). But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates. Person has individually a great season in Romania. After only 9 games, he made it on the list of the league’s leaders in assists with 4.9apg (8th best).
