American Kaleb Hunter (193-G) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for league’s leader Mad Foxes and that’s him to receive a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 8.
The guard had the game-high 26 points adding seven rebounds and four assists for Mad Foxes in his team’s victory, helping them to crush New Bayazet (#4, 4-5) with 17-point margin 85-68. The game was between two of the league’s top four teams. It allowed Mad Foxes to jump to the first place in the Caucasus Basketball League. They would have been even better if they hadn’t lost a few games earlier this season. Mad Foxes has a very solid 7-3 record, but they cannot be too comfortable about keeping top position. In the team’s last game Hunter had a remarkable 70.0% from 2-point range and got three three-pointers out of 6 attempts. He turned to be Mad Foxes’ top player in his first season with the team. University of North Carolina at Greensboro graduate has very impressive stats this year. Hunter is in league’s top in points (6th best: 19.0ppg) and averages solid 63.8% FGP.
The second most remarkable performance in last round’s games was young American power forward Jamal Poplar (204-F/C-1996) of Cilicia. Poplar impressed basketball fans with a double-double of 24 points and 14 rebounds. It was enough for Cilicia to edge Supersonics (#8, 0-9) by 5 points 93-88. Cilicia’s 6th position in the standings has not changed. His team is not often considered as one of the league’s best with a mere 3-7 record. Poplar is a newcomer at Cilicia and it seems he did not have too much trouble to become one of team’s leaders. Seward County Community College alumni Poplar played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which is considered top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas.
The third best performed player last round was American Chris Donaldson (173-PG) of Supersonics (#8). Donaldson showcased his all-around game by recording 24 points, nine rebounds and eight assists in the last round. Despite Donaldson’s great performance Supersonics lost 88-93 to slightly higher-ranked Cilicia (#6, 3-7). But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates. Supersonics can only dream about fighting for top spots in the league. They have awful season losing so far all 9 games. Donaldson has individually a great season in Caucasus Basketball League. After only 9 games, he made it on the list of the league’s leaders in points with 16.8ppg (8th best), rebounds with 7.7rpg (8th best) and assists with 7.1apg (best passer).
