The most exciting game of round 5 in the ProA U21 took place in Blois. This derby game ended with only one-point home defeat of 9th ranked Blois (2-3) to leader Dijon (5-0) 86-85 on Saturday evening. Guest team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Blois. Dijon forced 22 Blois turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Forward Hugo Marin-Birkener (200-2003) stepped up and scored 23 points and 6 rebounds for the winners and guard Evann Gauthier (185-2003) chipped in 15 points and 6 assists. Guard Eliot Thillier (188-2002) responded with 16 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists. Blois’ coach David Morabito rotated ten players in this game, but that didn’t help. Undefeated Dijon have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They maintain first place with 5-0 record. Blois at the other side dropped to the tenth position with three games lost. They share it with Nanterre and Bourg. Dijon are looking forward to face Nanterre (#12) at home in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Blois will play against Levallois and is hoping to prove to their supporters that this time they can win.
Pau-Lacq-Orthez (#5) was upset in Nancy by eighth ranked Nancy 64-57. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Pau-Lacq-Orthez. Nolan Kingue (194-2003) nailed 22 points and 9 rebounds for the winning side and Ingea Matisse accounted for 16 points and 11 rebounds. Fallou Dieng (205-2002) came up with a double-double by scoring 11 points and 10 rebounds for Pau-Lacq-Orthez in the defeat. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Nancy. They moved-up to fifth place, which they share with ASVEL. Pau-Lacq-Orthez at the other side dropped to the seventh position with two games lost. They share it with Limoges CSP. Nancy will play against league’s second-placed Cholet on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Pau-Lacq-Orthez will play against Paris BA (#16) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
Strasbourg has registered their first victory this season after four consecutive losses. The win is especially important as they defeated much higher ranked Limoges CSP (3-2) 87-77 on Saturday. The best player for the winners was Maxim Ilvovskiy who scored 24 points and 7 rebounds. Strasbourg’s coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Hugo Desseignet produced 19 points, 9 assists and 4 steals for the guests. Strasbourg (1-4) left bottom position moving up to fourteenth place, which they share with Le Mans. Loser Limoges CSP dropped to the seventh position with two games lost. They share it with Pau-Lacq-Orthez. Strasbourg will meet Gravelines (#17) on the road in the next round. Limoges CSP will play against Fos-Provence (#9) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

There were no shocking results in the rest of the games of round 5: winless Le Portel lost to Fos-Provence on the opponent’s court 71-79. Bourg lost to defending champion Cholet in a home game 63-77. Levallois managed to beat Le Mans on the road 80-72. Nanterre lost to undefeated Roanne on its own court 73-79. Winless Gravelines was smashed by ASVEL in Villeurbanne 71-99. Dijon destroyed Le Mans at home 71-49.

Fos-Provence – Le Portel 79-71

Very expected game in Fos-sur-Mer where bottom-ranked Le Portel (0-5) was defeated by twelfth ranked Fos-Provence (2-2) 79-71 on Friday. Fos-Provence outrebounded Le Portel 46-24 including a 31-14 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The best player for the winners was naturalized Guinean forward Ousmane Kaba (195-2002) who had a double-double by scoring 15 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists. Forward Willian Marie-Anais (201-2004) chipped in 20 points and 7 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). Four Fos-Provence players scored in double figures. Forward Kenny Kasiama (206-2003) produced 22 points and 7 rebounds and Cameron Valcy (192-2003) added 20 points respectively for the guests. Fos-Provence moved-up to ninth place. Le Portel lost their fifth game in a row. They still close the standings with five games lost. They share the position with Gravelines. Fos-Provence will meet higher ranked Limoges CSP (#8) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Le Portel will play against Le Mans (#14) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
