The most exciting game of round 3 in the National League took place in Yavne. This derby game ended with only two-point home defeat of E.Yavne (14-14) to Ramat Hash. (18-10) 98-96 on Tuesday evening. Ramat Hash. made 20-of-25 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game. Ramat Hash. had a 29-17 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. It was a good game for American forward Ira Lee (203-1998, college: Arizona) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 13 rebounds. point guard Amit Alon (180-2000) contributed with 22 points, 8 rebounds and 9 assists (went 9 for 9 at the free throw line !!!) for the winners. Naturalized Polish guard Gal Gilinski (195-1995, agency: Avi Zilberman) answered with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 19 assists for E.Yavne. E.Yavne’s coach David Elharar rotated ten players in this game, but that didn’t help. Ramat Hash. are looking forward to face I.Nahariya (#5) at home in the next round. E.Yavne will play against M.Rishon in Rishon Le-Zion and is hoping to prove to their supporters that this time they can win.
An interesting game for M.Raanana (24-4) which hosted in Raanana M.Rishon (20-8). M.Raanana had an easy win 91-76. It was a great evening for the former international swingman Joaquin Shuchman (191-1995) who led his team to a victory scoring 23 points and 5 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Efi Tyomkin helped adding 22 points. M.Raanana’s coach Shai Segalovich used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was American guard Qua Grant (185-1999, college: SHSU) with 25 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. M.Raanana will play against H.Eilat (#3) on the road in the next round, which may be the game of the day. M.Rishon will play against E.Yavne and hopes to get back on the winning track.
The game in Rehovot supposed to be also quite interesting. E.Ashkelon (16-13) played at the court of M.Rehovot (15-14). M.Rehovot smashed E.Ashkelon 106-71 on Tuesday. It was an exceptional evening for Igor Nesterenko who led the winners and scored 14 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. Cody Riley came up with 10 points and 9 rebounds for E.Ashkelon in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. M.Rehovot will meet H.Safed Galil (#9) on the road in the next round. E.Ashkelon will play against H.Izrael and hope to secure a win.
There were no big surprises in other games of round 3: bottom-ranked Otef Darom was beaten by H.Safed Galil on the road 81-75. H.Kfar Qasem won against E.Shomron on its own court 94-82. H.Kfar Saba was outscored by H.Izrael in Nazareth 95-75. I.Nahariya was rolled over H.Eilat at home 78-97.
M.Rehovot – E.Ashkelon 106-71
The game in Rehovot supposed to be also quite interesting. E.Ashkelon (16-13) played at the court of M.Rehovot (15-14). M.Rehovot smashed E.Ashkelon 106-71 on Tuesday. They outrebounded E.Ashkelon 40-27 including a 35-22 advantage in defensive rebounds. M.Rehovot shot the lights out from three sinking 15 long-distance shots on high 51.7 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists. It was an exceptional evening for naturalized Ukrainian center Igor Nesterenko (203-1990) who led the winners and scored 14 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). American forward Demetrius Treadwell (201-1991, college: Akron) accounted for 6 points and 14 rebounds for the winning side. Four M.Rehovot players scored in double figures. American Cody Riley (206-1997, college: UCLA) came up with 10 points and 9 rebounds and guard Daniel Najar (193-2001) added 12 points and 6 assists respectively for E.Ashkelon in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. However just six-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. H.Safed Galil outrebounded Otef Darom 46-34 including 31 on the defensive glass.
