BSL is at the halfway of the Second Stage and there are still another 5 rounds left. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most shocking disappointment of round 5 in the BSL was a home defeat of 3rd placed UBSC Graz (2-3) by fourth ranked Oberwart (3-2) who outscored them by 31 points 84-53. It was a key game for the second position in the league. Americans were the main players on the court. Forward Robert Allen (206-2000, college: N.Texas, agency: Elevate Sports Alliance) stepped up and scored 21 points and 9 rebounds for the winners and forward Ziggy Reid (198-2000, college: YSU, agency: Inception Sports) chipped in 20 points. Guard Jeremy Smith (190-1991, college: Nicholls) responded with 17 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Defending champion moved-up to second place, which they share with Gmunden. UBSC Graz at the other side dropped to the fourth position with three games lost. They share it with Klosterneuburg. Oberwart will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. UBSC Graz will play on the road against Oberwart (#3) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Important game to mention about took place in Traiskirchen. Sixth ranked Arkadia Lions (1-4) saved a 3-point victory at home edging 5th ranked Dukes (2-3) 85-82 on Friday evening. American guard Cedric Russell (188-1999, college: Ohio St.) nailed 24 points for the winning side and Benedikt Guettl accounted for 19 points and 8 assists. Arkadia Lions’ coach Benedikt Danek allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. American forward Will Carius (205-1998, college: W.Illinois) came up with 18 points and 8 rebounds for Klosterneuburg in the defeat. Arkadia Lions maintains sixth place with 1-4 record, which they share with St.Poelten and Furstenfeld. Klosterneuburg at the other side dropped to the fourth position with three games lost. They share it with UBSC Graz. Traiskirchen will play against higher ranked Klosterneuburg (#5) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Klosterneuburg will have a break next round.

Raiffeisen Flyers Wels have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain first place with 4-1 record. Loser Gmunden Swans keeps the second position with two games lost. They share it with Oberwart. Wels will meet league’s second-placed Gmunden on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Gmunden will have a break next round.

In the last two games of round 5 bottom-ranked St.Poelten lost to Vienna on the opponent’s court 73-77. Furstenfeld lost to undefeated BBC Nord in a home game 70-80.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 27 points and 5 rebounds by Sead Hadzifejzovic of BBC Nord.


Vienna – St.Poelten 77-73

Rather expected game when 11th ranked UBC St. Poelten (1-4) was defeated on the road by ninth ranked BC Vienna (2-2) 77-73 on Friday. Vienna looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. The best player for the winners was Serbian Ivan Gavrilovic (205-1996) who had a double-double by scoring 20 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists. Forward Aron Stazic (202-2007) chipped in 17 points and 7 rebounds. Four BC Vienna players scored in double figures. American point guard Richard Williams Jr (178-1987, college: SDSU) produced a double-double by scoring 16 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists and 6 steals and the other American import forward Andrew Sims (198-1999, college: Stonehill) added 23 points and 6 rebounds respectively for the guests. Vienna maintains ninth place with 2-2 record. Loser UBC St. Poelten stay at the bottom position with four games lost. They share it with Traiskirchen and Furstenfeld. Vienna will meet bottom-ranked St.Poelten (#11) on the road in the next round. St.Poelten will have a break next round.

BBC Nord looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The best player for the winners was Bosnian power forward Sead Hadzifejzovic (202-1989) who scored 27 points and 5 rebounds. Croatian forward Emilio Banic (197-1993) chipped in 15 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Nord Dragonz’s coach Felix Jambor used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. Spanish guard Juan Coffi (193-1998, college: CBU) produced a triple-double by scoring 11 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists and Bosnian swingman Armin Hrstic (195-2000) added 20 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for the hosts. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Nord Dragonz have a solid series of four victories in a row. BBC Nord maintains seventh place with 4-0 record.
