We bring you last week’s top performances from Belgians who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level.
#1. This week’s number one is an experienced former international point guard Sam Van-Rossom (188-1986, currently plays in Spain). He was the major contributor in Valencia‘s victory against the 14th-ranked Obradoiro (12-22) 89-85 in the Spanish Liga Endesa in Saturday night’s game.
Van-Rossom scored 16 points and added 8 assists in 26 minutes on the court.
Valencia Basket (3-0) is placed second in the Liga Endesa.
So far his team won all three games in the Regular Season.
They will play only one more game in the Regular Season. And that game will be critical.
This year Van-Rossom averages: 7.3ppg, 2.0rpg, 3.9apg, 2FGP: 41.4%, 3FGP: 42.1% in 19 games he played so far.
He played for the Belgian senior national team year ago.
#2. Second place goes to former international guard Retin Obasohan (189-1993, college: Alabama, currently plays in Israel). Obasohan could not help Hapoel Jerusalem (19-8) in their last game on Thursday. Despite his very good performance the first-placed Hapoel Jerusalem (19-8) was edged 88-85 on the road by the second-ranked Galil Gilboa in the Places 1-6 group.
Obasohan was the top scorer with 22 points. He also added 5 assists.
Obasohan has individually a very good season with high stats. He averages: 17.0ppg, 4.0rpg, 5.1apg, 1.2spg, 2FGP: 46.6%, 3FGP: 41.6% and FT: 80.5%.
Obasohan has a dual citizenship: Belgian and Nigerian.
He played for the Belgian national team in 22.
#3. The Belgian player who performed third best last week abroad was former international center Ismael Bako (208-1995, currently plays in Spain). Bako led Manresa to a victory against the 12th-ranked Unicaja (13-21) 100-95 in the Spanish Liga Endesa on Wednesday night.
He recorded 14 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in a mere 16 minutes.
BAXI Manresa (20-14) is placed seventh in the Liga Endesa.
Bako’s team will play only one more game in the Regular Season. And now that game is very crucial.
Bako has relatively good stats this year: 10.3ppg, 5.8rpg, 2FGP: 51.2% and FT: 80.3% in 31 games.
He played for the Belgian national team year ago.
#4. Power forward Andy Van Vliet (213-1995, college: William & Mary, currently plays in Israel) contributed to an easy victory against the sixth-ranked Hapoel Haifa (13-14) crushing them 107-85 in the Israeli Winner League in Thursday night’s game.
Van Vliet recorded 17 points, 8 rebounds and 2 blocks; quite an impressive performance considering it’s only his first season in pro basketball. Bnei Ofek Dist Hertzeliya (17-10) is placed third in Places 1-6 group.
This season Van Vliet has relatively solid stats: 10.8ppg, 5.0rpg and 1.6apg.

#5. Former international shooting guard Jean Salumu (193-1990, currently plays in France) contributed to a 1-point Chalons-Reims‘ victory against one of league’s weakest teams Entente Orleans 45 (11-22) 111-110 in the French Betclic ELITE ProA last Tuesday.
Salumu scored 15 points and added 3 assists in 34 minutes.
Champagne Chalons-Reims Basket (1-1) is placed seventh in the Betclic ELITE ProA.
His team will play only one more game in the Regular Season. And now that game is quite important.
This year Salumu’s overall stats are: 8.1ppg, 1.5rpg and 1.4apg in 22 games.

#6. Power forward Kevin Tumba (206-1991, agency: Network Sports International, currently plays in Greece) was not able to help Ionikos in their game against Olympiacos (23-1) in the Greek A1.
Tumba recorded 6 points and grabbed 8 rebounds.
Ionikos was defeated 86-78 at home by the leading Olympiacos.
His team will play only one more game in the Regular Season. And now that game is extremely important.
Tumba’s total stats this season are: 4.8ppg and 5.5rpg.
He is a former international player as he played for the Belgian senior team year ago.
#7. Former international swingman Loic Schwartz (197-1992, currently plays in France) faced previously mentioned Jean Salumu in the French Betclic ELITE ProA last game.
Schwartz was not able to secure a victory for Entente Orleans 45 (7-2) in their game against Chalons-Reims (9-24).
He scored 6 points.
Entente Orleans 45 was edged 111-110 on the opponent’s court by the league outsider Chalons-Reims (#18).
Schwartz’s team will play only one more game in the Regular Season.
Schwartz’s total stats this season are: 3.4ppg, 1.1rpg and 1.1apg.

#8. Point guard Emmanuel Lecomte (180-1995, college: Baylor, currently plays in Lithuania) couldn’t help Jonava (16-13) in their game against Siauliai (15-15) in the Lithuanian LKL. Lecomte cannot count Sunday’s game as one of the best ones.
He recorded only 2 points in 6 minutes on the court.
Jonava lost 65-79 on the opponent’s court to the lower-ranked (#5) Siauliai.
Lecomte has very impressive stats this year: 15.1ppg, 2.3rpg and 4.5apg in 26 games.

#9. Former U18 international point guard Niels Foerts (184-1997, currently plays in BNXT-League) managed to help Zeeuw & Zeeuw Feyenoord to win against the closely-ranked BAL Weert (5-5) crushing them 90-69 in the BNXT League in Sunday night’s game.
Foerts recorded 5 points.
Zeeuw & Zeeuw Feyenoord (0-10) is placed fifth in the BNXT League.
Foerts’ total stats this season are: 4.5ppg, 1.5rpg and 1.7apg.

One more player who has never been selected to any of national teams, but has Belgian passport:
#1. Jonathan Dubas (204-PF-1991, currently plays in Switzerland) was the major contributor in a Vevey Riviera‘s victory against the closely-ranked GC Zurich (15-5) crushing them 98-47 in the Swiss NLB (second division) in Wednesday night’s game.
Dubas had a double-double by scoring 21 points and getting 11 rebounds. He also added 3 assists and 2 blocks in 27 minutes.
It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Vevey Riviera Basket (18-2) is placed first in the NLB.
It was his team’s fifth consecutive victory in a row.
Dubas has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 22.8ppg, 12.2rpg, 3.6apg and 2.9spg in 22 games he played so far.
Dubas has a dual citizenship: Belgian and Swiss.
