We bring you last week’s top performances from Germans who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level.
   #1. This week’s number one is former international center Tibor Pleiss (221-89, currently plays in Turkey). He led Efes to a victory against the 14th-ranked Turk Telekom (2-5) 79-66 in the Turkish BSL in Sunday night’s game.
Pleiss recorded 11 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists in 29 minutes on the court.
Anadolu Efes Istanbul (3-0) is placed first in the BSL.
So far his team won all three games in the Regular Season.
There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical.
Pleiss has relatively good stats this year: 10.8ppg, 3.5rpg, 3FGP: 33.3% and FT: 77.8% in four games he played so far.
He played for the German senior national team five years ago.

   #2. Second place goes to former international point guard Dennis Schroeder (181-93, currently plays in NBA). Schroeder could not help the Boston Celtics (4-6) in their last game on Saturday. Despite his very good performance the Boston Celtics (4-6) were edged 107-104 on the road by the Dallas Mavericks.
Schroeder was the second best scorer with 20 points. He also added 4 rebounds and 6 assists.
But this is still an early stage of the season and everything may happen.
Schroeder has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 14.0ppg, 3.9rpg, 6.0apg, 1.3spg, 2FGP: 41.8%, 3FGP: 30.4% and FT: 84.2%.
Schroeder has a dual citizenship: German and Gambian.
He played for the German national team in 2019.

   #3. The German player who performed third best last week abroad was former international center Daniel Theis (204-92, currently plays in NBA). Theis was not able to help the Houston Rockets (1-9) in their last game. Despite his very good performance the Houston Rockets (1-9) were edged 95-94 in Denver by the Nuggets.
Theis was the top scorer with 18 points. He also added 5 rebounds in 32 minutes.
It was Rockets’ eighth consecutive loss in a row.
But the season just started, so everything may happen.
This year Theis has relatively solid stats: 9.6ppg, 5.0rpg, 2FGP: 59.5%(22-37), 3FGP: 35.0% in eight games.
He played for the German national team two years ago.

   #4. Power forward Johannes Voigtmann (211-92, currently plays in Euroleague) was not able to secure a victory for CSKA (4-4) in their game against Fenerbahce (3-5) in the Euroleague.
Voigtmann scored 8 points.
CSKA was defeated 91-82 at home by the lower-ranked Fenerbahce (#10).
It was CSKA’s third consecutive loss in a row.
But the season is still in its first stage and everything can happen.
Voigtmann’s overall stats this season are: 9.5ppg, 5.3rpg and 2.9apg.
He is also German national team player.

   #5. Former University international swingman David Brembly (197-93, currently plays in Poland) led Enea Zastal to a victory over the eighth-ranked Spojnia (5-5) crushing them 96-53 in the Polish EBL last Thursday.
Brembly was MVP of the game. He recorded 15 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in only a mere 13 minutes.
Enea Zastal BC Zielona Gora (0-3) is placed fourth in the EBL.
But the season is still in its first stage and everything can happen.
It’s Brembly’s first year with the team.
This season Brembly’s overall stats are: 9.7ppg and 5.0rpg in 10 games.
He is another player who holds two passports: German and Polish.
Brembly used to play for the German university national team
six years ago.

   #6. Forward Robin Benzing (208-89, agency: BeoBasket, currently plays in Italy) was the main contributor in a Fortitudo BO‘s victory against the league leader Treviso (4-0) 83-70 in the Italian Serie A on Sunday night.
He was the best player in that game. Benzing recorded 19 points and grabbed 4 rebounds.
It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Lavoropiu Fortitudo Bolognais placed in the Serie A.
Benzing has reliable stats this season: 14.9ppg, 2.6rpg and 1.6apg.
He is an international player who is currently on the senior German National Team roster.

   #7. International point guard Ismet Akpinar (193-95, also represented by BeoBasket, currently plays in Turkey) managed to help Fenerbahce Dogus Istanbul in a victory against the 13th-ranked Yalova (2-5) crushing them 86-60 in the Turkish BSL in Sunday night’s game.
Akpinar recorded 5 points and added 4 assists in 13 minutes.
Fenerbahce Dogus Istanbul (4-0) is placed first in the BSL.
So far his team won all four games in the Regular Season.
There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game is very crucial.
This year Akpinar averages only 5.8ppg in five games.
He is also German national team player.

   #8. Center Mahir Agva (206-96, currently plays in Turkey) contributed to a Pinar Karsiyaka‘s victory against one of league’s weakest teams Merkezefendi (2-5) 81-73 in the Turkish BSL last Saturday.
Agva recorded only 4 points.
Pinar Karsiyaka SK Izmir (6-1) is placed second in the BSL.
It was his team’s fourth consecutive victory in a row.
There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be important.
Agva’s total stats this season are: 4.0ppg, 4.0rpg and 1.3apg.
He used to play for the German university national team
back in 2017.
   #9. An experienced former U18 international guard Franz Wagner (206-1, college: Michigan, currently plays in NBA) helped Orlando Magic win their game against the Utah Jazz (8-3) 107-100 in the NBA on Sunday night.
Wagner scored 10 points, grabbed 4 rebounds and dished 4 assists in 32 minutes.
The Orlando Magic has rather weak 3-8 record this season.
But the season is still in its first stage and everything can happen.
It’s Wagner’s first year with the team.
He has very impressive stats this season: 13.7ppg, 3.5rpg, 2.1apg and 1.1spg in 11 games.
Wagner used to play for the German U18 national team
two years ago.

   #10. Guard Bazoumana Kone (193-93, college: Bremerhaven, currently plays in BNXT-League) helped his Belgian team Liege Basket win their game against the closely-ranked Okapi Aalst (4-4) 70-55 in the BNXT League last Friday.
He scored 16 points, had 5 boards, passed 5 assists and added 4 steals (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line) in 25 minutes.
VOO Liege Basket (2-5) is placed eighth in the BNXT League.
Kone has very impressive stats this year: 16.7ppg, 3.7rpg, 4.7apg and 2.4spg in seven games.
He is a former university international player as four years ago he still played for the German national team.

   #11. International forward Niels Giffey (200-91, another player represented by BeoBasket, college: UConn, currently plays in Euroleague) couldn’t help the league outsider Zalgiris in their game against ALBA Berlin in the Euroleague.
Giffey scored 5 points and grabbed 4 rebounds.
His team was defeated 79-71.
Giffey’s total stats this season are: 6.4ppg and 4.4rpg.
He plays currently for the German national team.

   #12. Former U18 international center Akim-Jamal Jonah (210-98, college: San Diego, currently plays in Denmark) helped Naestved win their game against the closely-ranked Vaerlose 83-64 in the Danish BasketLigaen in Thursday night’s game.
He recorded 9 points and grabbed 5 rebounds.
Jonah’s total stats this season are: 6.5ppg and 4.0rpg.
He used to play for the German U18 national team
back in 2016.

   #13. Former U20 international point guard Robert Zinn (197-95, currently plays in Switzerland) helped Fribourg win their game against one of league’s weakest teams Lugano 68-58 in the Swiss SBL last Saturday.
Zinn recorded 6 points in 28 minutes.
This year Zinn’s total stats are: 5.7ppg, 2.7rpg and 3.2apg in six games.
He used to play for the German U20 national team
six years ago.

   #14. Former U16 international center Vladimir Pinchuk (211-99, currently plays college basketball in the States) helped San Diego win their game against the La Verne University crushing them 103-38 in the NCAA in Tuesday night’s game.
Pinchuk recorded 15 points and grabbed 7 rebounds in a mere 16 minutes. It was his first game for San Diego this season.
Pinchuk used to play for the German U16 national team
back in 2015.

   #15. Former U18 international center Justin Raffington (206-91, college: FAU, currently plays in Spain) helped Valladolid win their game against the 13th-ranked Girona 73-70 in the Spanish LEB Gold (second division) last Saturday.
He scored 7 points and grabbed 4 rebounds.
Raffington has averaged so far 8.3ppg and 4.0rpg.
He used to play for the German U18 national team
twelve years ago.

The list of other players, who all have German passport but never been selected to any of German national teams:

   #1. Dylan Osetkowski (206-F-96, agency: BeoBasket, college: Texas, currently plays in Euroleague) managed to help ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket to win against the 15th-ranked Unics (3-5) 85-82 in the Euroleague in Thursday night’s game.
He scored only 4 points.
ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket (6-2) is placed fifth in the Euroleague.
It was his team’s third consecutive victory in a row.
But the season is still in its first stage and everything can happen.
It’s Osetkowski’s first year with the team.
Osetkowski’s total stats this season are: 4.0ppg and 2.8rpg.
He is a naturalized American.
Osetkowski used to play for BG Goettingen in German league.

   #2. Experienced Kiril Wachsmann (203-C-84, college: Iona, currently plays in Uruguay) led Malvin to a victory against one of league’s weakest teams Defensor (0-4) 80-71 in a derby game in the Uruguayan LUB in Wednesday night’s game.
Wachsmann scored 11 points, had 7 rebounds and dished 4 assists in 40 minutes.
Malvin Montevideo (9-3) is placed third in the LUB.
The Regular Season already ended.
This year Wachsmann’s total stats are: 8.7ppg, 6.0rpg and 2.0apg in three games he played so far.
He has a dual citizenship: German and Uruguayan.

   #3. Bar Timor (190-G-92, currently plays in Israel) could not help Hapoel Tel-Aviv (1-4) in their last game on Monday. Despite Timor’s good performance Hapoel Tel-Aviv was edged 99-97 on the road by the second-ranked Galil Elion.
He scored 10 points and added 4 assists.
But the season is still in its first stage and everything can happen.
Timor’s total stats this season are: 9.4ppg, 3.4rpg and 5.0apg.
He is another player who holds two passports: German and Israeli.

   #4. Ryan Kriener (208-C-98, college: Iowa, currently plays in Japan) was not able to help Ehime OV (1-9) in their last game. Despite Kriener’s good performance the seventh-placed Ehime OV (1-9) were crushed 110-87 at home by the leading FE Nagoya in the West group.
He scored 14 points, had 5 rebounds and dished 3 assists in 24 minutes; quite an impressive performance considering it’s only Kriener’s second season in pro basketball. It was Ehime OV’s fifth consecutive loss in a row.
But the season is still in its first stage and everything can happen.
Kriener’s stats this year are: 10.8ppg, 4.7rpg and 1.5apg in six games.
He is a naturalized American.
Strangely Kriener has never played in Germany.

   #5. Christopher Razis (194-PG-89, currently plays in Cyprus) was not able to secure a victory for one of league’s weakest teams Keravnos (4-2) in their game against E.N. Paralimni (6-0) in the Cypriot OPAP Basket League.
Razis scored 6 points and added 4 passes.
Keravnos was edged 91-89 in Paralimni by the second-ranked E.N..
It was Keravnos’ first loss after four consecutive victories.
But the season is still in its first stage and everything can happen.
Razis has averaged so far 4.8ppg, 2.3rpg and 3.5apg.
He has both German and Cypriot nationalities.

   #6. Juwan Willis (188-G-97, college: Point Park, currently plays in Spain) couldn’t help Guadalajara (4-4) in their last game on Saturday. Despite Willis’ good performance the sixth-placed Guadalajara was crushed 104-81 on the opponent’s court by the second-ranked Alcala in the Group B.
He was the second best scorer with 14 points. Willis also added made 3 passes and 3 steals.
Willis averaged so far 12.3ppg, 2.6rpg, 1.1apg and 1.5spg.
He is a naturalized American.
Strangely Willis has never played in Germany.

   #7. Noam Avivi (205-PF-99, currently plays in FIBA Europe Cup) couldn’t help one of league’s weakest teams Galil Gilboa in their game against Reggio Emilia in the FIBA Europe Cup.
He recorded 6 points in 19 minutes.
His team was badly defeated by 17 points 87-70.
Avivi has averaged so far 9.2ppg and 3.2rpg in five games.
He also holds two passports: German and Israeli.
Despite Avivi’s German nationality, he previously played for the Israeli U20 national team and is probably not eligible to play for the German team.

   #8. Daniel Jokubaitis (194-F/G-94, currently plays in Ireland) couldn’t help Tralee in their game against Maree in the Irish Super League.
Jokubaitis recorded 9 points, 11 rebounds, 3 assists and 5 steals.
His team was defeated 97-91.
Jokubaitis has averaged so far 10.0ppg, 10.0rpg, 3.0apg and 3.0spg.
He holds both Lithuanian and German passports.

   #9. Julian Jasinski (201-F-96, currently plays in Poland) couldn’t help Krosno in their game against Kotwica in the Polish 1Liga (second division). Jasinski cannot count Saturday’s game as one of the best ones.
He scored only 3 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 28 minutes.
His team was crushed by 27 points 89-62.
Jasinski’s stats this year are: 14.0ppg and 8.1rpg in seven games.
He has German and Polish nationalities.

   #10. Mateo Zovko (193-F-98, college: Laramie CC, currently plays in Bosnia) couldn’t help Zrinjski HT in their game against OKK Sloboda Tuzla in the Bosnia and Herzegovina Division I.
Zovko recorded 7 points.
His team was badly defeated by 18 points 83-65.
Zovko has averaged so far 5.3ppg, 1.3rpg and 1.7apg.
He has dual citizenship: German and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Despite Zovko’s German passport, he previously played for the Bosnia and Herzegovina U18 national team and probably cannot be called to the German team.
