This is still too early stage of the Regular Season in BNXT League and we should expect many changes in upcoming rounds. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most surprising game was the first loss of Dutch Zwolle (3-1) in Mechelen on Saturday night. Visitors were rolled over by tenth ranked Belgian Kangoeroes (2-1) 92-69. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Zwolle. Mechelen shot 61.4 percent from the field. They outrebounded Zwolle 35-22 including a 28-13 advantage in defensive rebounds. American players dominated the game. Worth to mention a great performance of guard Trenton Gibson (193-2000, college: Indiana St.) who helped to win the game recording 21 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists (made all of his eight free throws). Forward Aundre Hyatt (198-2000, college: Rutgers) contributed with 15 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Kangoeroes’ coach felt very confident that he used 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Forward Chandler Turner (201, college: Radford) replied with 16 points for Zwolle. Mechelen moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Leuven. Zwolle at the other side dropped to the fourth position with one game lost. They share it with Union Mons. Mechelen is looking forward to face league’s leader Kortrijk on the road in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Zwolle will have a break next round.

Leuven will play against Leeuwarden (#12) at home in the next round where they are favorite. Antwerp will have a break next round.

Den Helder lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the fourteenth position with three games lost. They share it with 3 other teams. BAL Weert will meet Groningen (#16) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Den Helder will play against Brussels and hope to win that game.

Other games in round 4 were not that significant. Kortrijk beat Den Bosch on the road 87-80. Winless Feyenoord lost to Union Mons on its own court 71-84. Limburg outscored ZZ Leiden in a road game 86-66. Leeuwarden lost to Belgian defending champion Oostende at home 86-92. Groningen was defeated by Aalst on the opponent’s court 91-93. Charleroi was beaten by BAL Weert in a home game 78-89.
The most impressive performance of 4th round was 19 points and 9 rebounds by Lionel Colson of BAL Weert.



Antwerp – Leuven 78-83

One of the most interesting games of round 4 was a derby match between two teams from Belgium. Tenth ranked Leuven Bears won against host Antwerp Giants (1-3) 83-78. Leuven dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to Antwerp Giants‘s 26. American players dominated also this game. Worth to mention a great performance of guard Jamison Overton (198-1999, college: Weber St.) who helped to win the game recording 20 points and 7 rebounds and point guard Casey Benson (191-1995, college: GCU) who added 12 points and 6 assists during the contest. Four Leuven Bears players scored in double figures. At the losing side guard Michael Flowers (185-1999, college: WSU) responded with 27 points and Mike Moore (203-1994, college: Mount Olive) scored 19 points. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Leuven (2-1) moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Mechelen. No shocking result in a game when top-ranked Belgian Kortrijk (4-0) beat on the road bottom-ranked Dutch Den Bosch (0-3) 87-80 on Thursday. The winners were led by Niels De Ridder (195-2001) who scored that evening 17 points and 6 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) and American guard John Newman III (196-1999, college: Cincinnati) supported him with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Five Kortrijk players scored in double figures. Kortrijk’s coach used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. Even 18 points by American guard LeTre Darthard (193-2000, college: Oklahoma) did not help to save the game for Den Bosch. His fellow American import guard Sherron Dorsey-Walker (195-1993, college: Oakland) added 21 points for lost side. Kortrijk have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 4-0 record, which they share with Limburg. Loser Den Bosch still closes the standings with three games lost. They share the position with Feyenoord. Kortrijk will meet at home Mechelen (#7) in the next round where they are favorite. Den Bosch will play against Union Mons (#4) in Jemappes and hopes to get finally their first victory.

Four Limburg United players scored in double figures. Even 10 points and 8 rebounds by American forward Brad Greene (210-1998, college: UC Irvine) did not help to save the game for ZZ Leiden. His fellow American import guard Aaron Cook (188-1997, college: Georgia) added 12 points and 4 steals for lost side. Both coaches tested many bench players saving starting five for next games. Limburg United have a solid four-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Kortrijk. Defending Dutch champion ZZ Leiden dropped to the eighth place with two games lost. They share the position with BAL Weert and Brussels. Limburg will meet at home Charleroi (#11) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. ZZ Leiden will play against Aalst and hope to secure a win.

Five Oostende players scored in double figures. Oostende’s coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Even 29 points by point guard Matt Frierson (188-1997, college: Citadel) did not help to save the game for Leeuwarden. Guard Robin Duncan (196-1998, college: Vermont) added 18 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists for lost side. Defending Belgian champion moved-up to third place. The winners were led by Montenegrin Ivan Maras (207-1986) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 12 points and 13 rebounds and Bosnian forward Lazar Mutic (204-1999) supported him with 17 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Five Okapi Aalst players scored in double figures. Even 20 points and 5 assists by Canadian guard Keevan Veinot (193-1998, college: Dalhousie) did not help to save the game for Groningen. British-Dutch guard Sam Van Oostrum (197-1998, college: Franklin Pierce) added 12 points and 4 assists for lost side. Groningen’s coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn’t help.
