Talented Eriks Zalans (186-G-2003) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for league’s second-best Bertanu and that’s him to receive a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 3 (Second Stage).
The 18-year old guard had a double-double of 32 points and eleven rebounds, while his team edged out A.Kraukla VEF (#5, 4-6) 91-88. Bertanu maintains the 2nd position in Latvian U19 League. They would have been even better if they did not have these two lost games earlier in Second Stage. Bertanu will need more victories to improve their 7-2 record. In the team’s last game Zalans had a remarkable 63.6% from 2-point range. He turned to be Bertanu’s top player in his first season with the team. Eriks Zalans averages this season 14.7ppg and 7.1rpg.

The second most remarkable performance in last round’s games was young power forward Armands Gailiss (207-F/C-2004) of Riga/Bball clas. Gailiss impressed basketball fans with a double-double of 31 points and 22 rebounds. It was enough for Riga/Bball clas to edge Ventspils Spars (8-2) by 5 points 83-78. The Second Stage is still at the very beginning and this victory may help a lot. Let’s wait for the next round. Gailiss is well-known by Riga/Bball clas fans and he already established his position as one of team’s most reliable players.

The third best performed player last round was Valters Briedis (184-G-2003) of Adazi (#3). Briedis scored 27 points and passed seven assists. He was a key player of Adazi, leading his team to a 92-60 easy win against Valka (#6, 3-6). Adazi needs these victories very badly if they think about getting closer to top teams. The Player of the week is selected based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it’s accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) – 2*BSAG – 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM – 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) – 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) – (FTA-FTM)
