Panionios Athens (Elite League) inked 28-year old Greek international 216cm center Georgios Tsalmpouris (college: Iowa State, agency: Octagon Europe) for upcoming season. Tsalmpouris played most recently at Surne Bilbao Basket in Spanish Liga Endesa. In 22 games he recorded just 3.0ppg and 1.1rpg last season. He also played 7 games in FIBA Europe Cup where he averaged 5.6ppg and 3.6rpg. Tsalmpouris helped them to make it to the FIBA Europe Cup Semifinals.
The previous (2022-23) season he played at Real Betis (Liga Endesa). In 16 games he had 8.8ppg and 2.9rpg in that year. He contributed to his team making it to the Supercup semifinals.
Tsalmpouris has been also a member of Greek international program for some years. He has regularly played for Greek senior team since 2021 and previously for U19 National Team back in 2015.
Tsalmpouris represented Greece at the European Championships (FIBA EuroBasket) U20 Division B in Chalkida (Greece) eight years ago. His team won Bronze and his stats at that event were 8 games: 8.0ppg, 4.0rpg, FGP: 60.5%, 3PT-3(50.0%), FT: 75.0%.
He has played previously for five other Greece teams: PAOK Mateco Thessaloniki, AEK Betsson Athens, Apollon Patras, Kolossos H Hotels Rodou and Larissa BC.
Tsalmpouris’ team won InterContinental Cup in 2019.
Tsalmpouris attended Iowa State until 2016 and it will be his ninth season in pro basketball.
