Mersin BBGSK (BSL) added to their roster 32-year old British ex-international center Gabriel Olaseni (208cm-104kg-1991, college: Iowa) for new 2024-25 season. Olaseni played last season at London Lions in British BBL league. The team played in three different competitions (!!!) that year, and he was exposed to basketball on different levels. In 39 BBL games he recorded 12.5ppg, 5.9rpg and 2.5apg. He helped them to win the league title. Quite impressive season as he was voted Eurobasket.com All-British BBL Center of the Year and selected to All-Domestic Players Team. Olaseni also played 21 games in Eurocup where he averaged remarkable 15.5ppg, 7.3rpg and 2.2apg. He contributed to his team making it to the semifinals.
The previous (2022-23) season he played at Darussafaka Lassa in Turkish BSL. In 32 games he had 12.7ppg, 7.4rpg and 1.5apg in that year. It was another spectacular season as he was voted to Eurobasket.com All-Turkish League Honorable Mention. Olaseni also played 13 games in Basketball Champions League where he got 14.8ppg, 6.8rpg and 1.8apg in that year. Good season as he was named League Player of the Week.
He has tried to make it to the NBA and played in the NBA Pro Summer League in 2015.
Olaseni was also a member of British international program for some years. He played for British Senior National Team between 2015 and 2022 and previously for U20 National Team back in 2010.
Olaseni represented United Kingdom at the European Championships (FIBA EuroBasket) 2021 Pre-Qualifiers five years ago. His stats at that event were 7 games: 9.0ppg, 8.9rpg, 1.3apg, FGP: 54.3%, FT: 81.3%.
He is quite experienced player. Olaseni has played also professionally in France (Entente Orleans 45), Germany (46ers and s Oliver Baskets), Italy (Sassari), Spain (Fuenlabrada) and Turkey (Bursaspor and Buyukcekmece).
He graduated from University of Iowa in 2015 and it will be his tenth season as a professional player.
