The Regular Season in BBL is slowly approaching the end. But there may be still some important changes in the final standings in the last 6 rounds. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.
An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Wuerzburg. Second ranked Bayern Muenchen faced 4th ranked s Oliver Baskets. Guests from Muenchen (23-4) defeated host s Oliver Baskets (20-8) 90-82. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of s Oliver Baskets. Bayern made 20-of-23 free shots (87.0 percent) during the game. Bayern outrebounded Wuerzburg 32-21 including 25 on the defensive glass. Argentinian swingman Leandro Bolmaro (198-2000) fired 16 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. American guard Carsen Edwards (185-1998, college: Purdue) chipped in 14 points. Bayern Muenchen’s coach Pablo Laso used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American point guard Otis Livingston II (180-1996, college: GMU) produced 31 points and 6 assists for lost side. Bayern Muenchen have an impressive five-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader. Wuerzburg at the other side keeps the fourth place with eight games lost. Bayern are looking forward to face Heidelberg (#16) on the road in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Wuerzburg will play against Rostock (#15) and is hoping to prove to their fans that the loss was just an accident.
We should mention about the upset which took place in Vechta, where higher ranked Rasta Vechta (17-11) lost at home to tenth ranked EWE Baskets (14-14) 82-88. The game was dominated by American players. Worth to mention a great performance of point guard DeWayne Russell (180-1994, college: GCU) who helped to win the game recording 24 points and 6 assists (made all of his eleven free throws !!!). Geno Crandall contributed with 20 points for the winners. EWE Baskets’ coach Pedro Calles allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Guard Ryan Schwieger (198-1999, college: Loyola, IL) replied with 22 points for Vechta. EWE Baskets have a solid three-game winning streak. Oldenburg moved-up to ninth place. Vechta lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the sixth position with 11 games lost. They share it with Ludwigsburg and Bonn. Oldenburg will play against Braunschweig (#12) at home in the next round. Vechta will play against Tuebingen (#18) and hopes to get back on the winning track.

They maintain second position with 23-5 record having just one point less than leader Bayern. Tuebingen lost fifth consecutive game. Newly promoted team stay dead last with 22 lost games. They share the position with Crailsheim. Chemnitz will meet Goettingen (#14) on the road in the next round which should be another easy win for them. Tuebingen will play against Vechta (#8) and hope to secure a win.
Rest of the games of round 28 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
Goettingen was defeated by Bonn in a road game 95-85. Braunschweig beat Crailsheim at home 98-88. Heidelberg was destroyed by Ludwigsburg on the opponent’s court 93-68. Bamberg managed to outperform Hamburg in a home game 86-80. Ulm rolled over Rostock on the road 96-71. Weissenfels were defeated by ALBA on its own court 67-76.
Bonn – Goettingen 95-85
There was no surprise in Bonn where 14th ranked BG Goettingen (8-20) was defeated by eighth ranked Telekom Baskets (17-11) 95-85 on Sunday. Worth to mention a great performance of Canadian forward Thomas Kennedy (206-2000, college: Windsor) who helped to win the game recording 17 points and 8 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) and Norwegian point guard Harald Frey (188-1997, college: Montana St.) who added 16 points and 8 assists during the contest. At the losing side Latvian center Karlis Silins (210-1997, college: FAU) responded with 16 points and 5 rebounds and Montenegrin Fedor Zugic (196-2003) scored 15 points and 6 rebounds. Four Bonn and five Goettingen players scored in double figures. Bonn moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Ludwigsburg and Vechta. Loser BG Goettingen dropped to the thirteenth position with 20 games lost. They share it with Weissenfels. Bonn will meet Crailsheim (#17) on the road in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Goettingen will play against the league’s second-placed Chemnitz (#2) and hope to secure a win.

Braunschweig shot the lights out from three sinking 17 long-distance shots on high 54.8 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of Angolan center Jilson Bango (208-1999) who helped to win the game recording 22 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists and American guard Ahmaad Rorie (186-1995, college: Montana, agency: Worldwide SM) who added 15 points, 10 assists and 4 steals during the contest. At the losing side American forward Galin Smith (204-1998, college: Maryland) responded with 22 points and 6 rebounds (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field) and French guard Leo Westermann (198-1992) scored 11 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Hakro Merlins’ coach rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn’t help. Braunschweig moved-up to eleventh place, which they share with Bamberg. Loser Hakro Merlins keeps the seventeenth position with 22 games lost. They share it with Tuebingen.
