Is Jeremy Sochan cashing in fantasy potential?

There were only two games on Thursday, setting up Friday’s 14-game slate. C.J. McCollum led the Pelicans past the Spurs by scoring a season-high 40 points and adding eight rebounds, nine assists and seven triples. He is on quite the tear, as he finished with a 31/8/9 line with six 3-pointers in their previous game. The Jazz beat the Wizards using a team effort, with three players scoring at least 20 points. They also withstood a 30-point performance from Bradley Beal, which was just his fourth of the season. There aren’t many players that are worth adding after just two games, but here are the few that should be considered.

Jeremy Sochan- 7%

Two days ago, Sochan was being clowned on Twitter for his one-handed free throw shooting. However, the 42.9% free throw shooter shot 7-for-10 from the line on Thursday. He also added 23 points, nine rebounds, six assists, a steal and two triples as a starter. The rookie has loads of fantasy potential, and if he continues to start, he’s not a guy to miss out on.

Willy Hernangomez- 1% and Naji Marshall- 9%

With Zion Williamson in health and safety protocols, Marshall got the start on Thursday and should start again on Friday. He didn’t post great numbers, but he’ll at least see the opportunity to produce. Hernangomez was far more productive, adding a 13/7/5/1/2 line in 22 minutes off the bench. Both are risky, but if Larry Nance (Achilles) also remains out, they should both play big roles.

Landry Shamet- 2% and Damion Lee- 3%

Devin Booker will miss his third straight game on Friday. In his first absence, Lee hit five triples. In his second, Shamet hit nine. It’s unclear which one will be the better option against the Grizzlies, though Lee has been the starter, for what it’s worth.

Stanley Johnson- less than 1%

Johnson has been with the Spurs for less than two weeks. On Thursday, he posted a 12/4/2/1/2 line with a triple. In their previous game, he put up a 10/3/3 line with two triples. His minutes have been in the teens, but if he keeps playing this well, it will be difficult for Gregg Popovich to keep him on the bench. He’s probably only worth keeping an eye on right now, but he has been very productive lately.

Other notes:

– The Spurs, Wizards and Pelicans all play again on Friday

– The Warriors and Jazz are the only teams that will get the night off.

– Desmond Bane has been upgraded to questionable for Friday’s matchup with Phoenix after missing their last 17 games with a big toe sprain.
