Latvian Eduards Avotins (198-SF-2001) had a very impressive game in the last round for BK Kekava, receiving a Hoops Agents RNBL Player of the Week award for round 20.
The 22-year old player had a double-double of 36 points and 10 rebounds, while his team beat RSU/VEF (#3, 10-4) 94-82. Kekava maintains the 11th position in their group in the Latvian RNBL. Too late to salvage the team, which is currently ranked such low. They already lost 12 games and recorded just two victories. In the team’s last game Avotins had a remarkable six three-pointers out of 9 attempts. It’s his second year at Kekava and it’s hard to imagine this team without him. Eduards Avotins has solid league stats. He is league’s best scorer averaging so far 27.4ppg. Avotins is in league’s top in and averages impressive 1.5bpg and 57.8% FGP.

The second best player in last round’s games was young Marcis Saulitis (209-C-1997) of Kandava/Anzage. Saulitis had a very good evening with 24 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists. Bad luck as Kandava lost that game 74-79 to the lower-ranked Turiba (#7, 7-4). This loss caused Kandava to drop to 3rd position in West. His team’s 9-5 record is not bad at all. Saulitis is one of the most experienced players at Kandava and has a reputation of one of team’s most reliable players.

Third on the list of top players last round was forward Ivars Zemitis (195-F-1990) of Bauskas BJSS/SC Memele (#6). Zemitis scored 23 points and grabbed 11 rebounds (!!!). Despite Zemitis’ great performance the Bauska lost 86-92 to slightly lower-ranked Bertanu (#8, 6-9). But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates. The chances of Bauska ranking at the top of East, however are very questionable as they have already lost 9 games, recording just seven victories. With bigger assistance of his teammates, Zemitis could help Bauska to bring them higher in the standings. Zemitis has a great season in Latvia. After 16 games, he made it on the list of the league’s leaders in points with 22.6ppg (4th best) and rebounds with 9.9rpg (6th best).

The Player of the week is selected based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it’s accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3*(REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) – 2*BSAG – 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4*(2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM – 3*(2FGPA-2FGPM) – 3*(3FGPA-3FGPM) – (FTA-FTM)
